Top 25 impact players on the roster
This thread is not meant as a knock on any players but would be curious to hear from others what they think. With that said I thought I’d list out who I feel are the top 25 impact players on the roster.
1. Justin rice. Former preseason mw defensive player of the year.
2. Shaq bond: all conference safety
3. Deven thompkins: electric
4. Alfred edwards: all conference oline dude
5. AJV: big time linebacker
6. Jordan Nathan: stud receiver
7. Carson Terrell: hoping we use the te this year
8. Byron Vaughans: all reports are that he could be a all conference kid this year. Texas transfer.
9. Brandon bowling: Arkansas state wr transfer
10. Savon scarver: Too low?
11. Kevin meizenheimer: our linebacker depth is awesome this year.
12. Demytrick aliifua: veteran oline dude
13. Nick heninger: back to the more natural position
14. Logan bonner: starting qb
15. Marcus Moore: playing inside dline could do well.
16. Justin McGriff: if he brings effort he could really turn into a all conference receiver
17. Broc lane: showed a lot of promise last year
18. Falepule alo: also showed a lot of promise last year
19. DHC: really runningback becomes the number 1 option. Could also put 3-4 other running backs here such as Calvin Tyler, noa, gentry
20. Hale motu: can he be a starter on the inside This year?
21. Quazzel white: starter at tcu. Did I list him too low?
22. Patrick Joyner: maybe too low as well. Miami transfer with a ton of upside
23. Cash Gilliam: will start at the striker position.
24. Cam lampkin: cb
25. Jackson Owens: prior staff raved about his potential
Honorable mention:
Zahodri jackson, Kyle Mayberry, jahaziel white, Ajani Carter, Andre Grayson, Dom Tatum, elynon noa, Kina maile, unannounced dline commit, Calvin Tyler, John gentry, Andrew Peasley, cooper Legas, Jacob south

Re: Top 25 impact players on the roster
No easy task to compare players of different positions and even sides of the bal. Just a couple thoughts.
- I think Heninger should be higher, and definitely above K-Metz. Regarding impact, Heninger led the team in both sacks and forced fumbles last season.
- Marcus Moore likely should be higher too as he is a disruptor and I think he'll thrive in a 4 man front.
- Still too early to tell, but we need Logan Bonner to be in the top 10

Re: Top 25 impact players on the roster
Nice list. I agree with most of it.
Players that didn't make your list that I can't imagine won't be in the top 25:
-Jahaziel Lee
-Kyle Mayberry
-Stephen Kotsanlee
Possibly in the top 25:
-Aurion Peoples
-John Gentry
-Calvin Tyler
-Hunter Reynolds
I probably wouldn't have in my top 25 from above:
-K-Metz
-Cam Lampkin
-Cash Gilliam

Shaq Bond was part of the cancer last year. I think he has a lot of leadership issues. Hopefully he thrives under new coaches. Otherwise your list looks good.

Dude I was thinking about Kotsanlee as I wrote names but totally missed. He should def be on there. He was legit.Aglicious wrote: ↑May 16th, 2021, 5:03 pmNice list. I agree with most of it.

I also forgot about Reynolds. Going through the roster one area I didn’t feel great about was that other safety spot. Could very likely be Reynolds but hope someone steps up there.
The other one that stood out to me was oline. We lost a bunch of guys this past year to injury or transfer. Andy Koch would have been high up.
Running back isn’t proven but I feel good about the talent and depth there.

And agreed Bonner needs or a qb needs to have a great year for us.

That’s what I’m talking about! He didn’t play much last year which I was surprised considering his big time interest.

That was a Dave Schramm problem.

Top 25 impact players on the roster
Well special teams all-Americans should have an asterisk by their names in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong as I think Savon is a real weapon on kick returns but the number of opportunities he gets to impact a game are relatively few as compared to every down players. I do think Savon could be moved up a few spots but think of him similar to Eberle, who was also an all-American I believe. He was super valuable to us but I wouldn’t have put him at #1 impact player on those teams. I probably wouldn’t have put Eberle in front of J-Love, Tarver, Darwin, Bright, Galeai, Dax,... Maybe somewhere between #5-#8. Now if Savon could translate his kick return impact into wide receiver impact, I think he’d be near the top. Just my 2 cents.sancho839 wrote:Wow if we have an All-American as our tenth best player we should be competing for a natty.

Re: Top 25 impact players on the roster
Interesting you say that, I was wondering who will be our lead back will be. Both he, Noa and Henry-Cole all looked just okay last year with none of them really owning the job (I don't hold it against them with the sh*t show that was our offense last year).
Re: Top 25 impact players on the roster
Being a nationally recognized kick returner does not necessarily translate to being one of the most important players on a team. I love watching Savon play and I'm glad we have him in Aggie blue for another year, but that's just not how it works.
Now, if he were as good of a receiver as he were a kick returner, he'd be far and away number one on every list.

With Dave Schramm out of the way, John Gentry looked great this spring.OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑May 17th, 2021, 1:16 pmInteresting you say that, I was wondering who will be our lead back will be. Yea, there was a clear disconnect between what I saw was happening on the field and who was getting snaps. I thought Noa earned more carries than he was getting.aggies22 wrote: ↑May 17th, 2021, 2:34 pmWith Dave Schramm out of the way, John Gentry looked great this spring.OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑May 17th, 2021, 1:16 pmInteresting you say that, I was wondering who will be our lead back will be. Re: Top 25 impact players on the roster
Teams with big time running games are really fun to watch IMHO. Just for reference I saw Lamonica throw 34 TD's in a season. A long run is just more fun to watch than a long pass.

DHC, Gentry, Noa, Tyler: what will the depth chart look like and how will carries and the pass game be split?

By the sounds of things it sounds like gentry came out of spring as our lead back.

Re: Top 25 impact players on the roster
I sat by the Gentry's and Vaughn's at the spring game. Awesome people and enthusiastic as hell. Best quote was: "we're opposite sides of the ball, but we're all Aggies." Gentry broke off a good gainer at one point and got up with some swag and Vaughn's dad said "I see the wiggle!"
Not to pile on, but K Metz should not be anywhere near the top. Rather, if he is in the top 25, we're in trouble.

Re: Top 25 impact players on the roster
I love to see teams I like impose their will on defenses and ram the ball down their throats and nothing they can do about it. I hope our O-line has the ability to get that part of the job done and have a running back by committee that could avg. 300+ a game. We will be successful if that can happen.
