Re: Boise/BYU ticket sales
For those that care In that area are either BYU or Boise fans. With that said I think there is a decent amount of alumni. Should have more organized events in that area.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑September 21st, 2021, 10:14 amThat's fair. I'm thinking a little further north into Pocatello and Idaho Falls. USU is the closest FBS school to those areas. A decent percentage of my high school (Idaho Falls) attended USU, and you see the occasional flag or two around the area. All you see in the stores here though is Cougar gear and Bronco gear, and you can't get Aggie games on over-the-air radio here.CaptainChaos wrote: ↑September 21st, 2021, 9:51 amIt definitely isn't non-existent though- my boy is a middle schooler in preston and at the UND game he said he saw tons of kids from his school there. I mean look at the numbers- Franklin County doesn't even reach USU enrollment numbers.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑September 21st, 2021, 9:19 amI've long thought USU should have much more of a presence than it does in SE Idaho.travelingagg wrote: ↑September 21st, 2021, 8:20 amThis is a numbers game not in our favor:
With an estimated 128,289 in Cache County and another 13,876 in Franklin County Idaho in Cache Valley, the valley is small. At 142,165 residents in Cache Valley, we're just 5% of the size of the 2,606,548-resident Wasatch Front. If we want more people in attendance, we need to effectively reach them not only in the valley but along the Wasatch front.
Utah State is the biggest show in town. When you get down to the Wasatch Front, people have more options from which to choose. I think the value proposition is that you can get out of town, go to a game, have a good time, all for less than it would cost to go to a game in Salt Lake.
Utah State struggles with this on our enrollment as well. I've been tracking our enrollment numbers released alongside other universities every October. Utah State's enrollment has been stagnant relative to faster-growing schools like Dixie State, SUU, UVCC (UVU), Weber State, and Utah. Our alumni base is taking up a proportionally smaller segment of the college graduates. Fewer alumni make it even harder to fill stadiums.
Our athletic and broader marketing and recruitment teams have a Wellsville Mountain/Sardine Canyon-sized barrier to overcome.
I'm doing my part and flying up to the Boise game this weekend. Can't wait to be there and say hi to Logan.

It's really too bad that the closest populated areas are Ogden which has Weber and Pocatello which has ISU. Why on earth were so many universities formed so close to one another?

Re: Boise/BYU ticket sales
It isn't about geography. We kind of suck as a fan base.
We have had good success, but we have never had the transformational success that our rivals have had...yet. We've never had a 1984 or 2004, 2008 in football. We haven't made a final 4 and multiple elite 8 runs. The capability is there, it just hasn't happened yet. The capability hasn't always been there.
I wish it didn't take something like this, but it does.

Success helps. Community size helps. Student enrollment size helps. Money helps. Not having as many competing forms of entertainment also helps.GeoAg wrote: ↑September 21st, 2021, 10:57 amIt isn't about geography. We kind of suck as a fan base.

Schools like UNLV, who won NCAA Tournament in 1990 in basketball, with four NCAA final four appearances in '77, '87, '90, and '91, are in a community the size of the entire Wasatch Front (2.3 million people), have a large student enrollment, have access to a lot-ish of money, still struggle to fill their arena. While it's easy to get down on our fan base, if you look at schools like UNLV, we have some things to feel proud about.
I went to the Iowa State vs. UNLV game on Saturday. In a $2 billion new facility against a P5 opponent, UNLV had an estimated 5,000 fans in attendance. I estimate Iowa State had about 26,000 fans show up. It was sad. Iowa State fans were so loud they got UNLV to false start once or twice on 3rd and short situations.

Re: Boise/BYU ticket sales
I'm sure envious of you guys who can worry about things more important than how many tickets have been sold, but it's something that bugs me, I can't help it.
As of this morning there were 1,985 tickets remaining (plus whatever Boise gives back/gave back). I'd predict we come just short of a sell out, but am hopeful that we can get there. Does Coach have a sellout provision in his contract? If so, he might end up just buying out the remaining tickets if it gets close.

Re: Boise/BYU ticket sales
I had plans to cross state lines to attend this game and got called to work Saturday last minute. Heartbroken, I bought a ticket anyway and gave it to a family member on the fence that can attend. USU deserves our support. If I (the poorest college student of them all) can make that sacrifice, then more people in Cache Valley should as well.

I'm curious to know how you know precisely how many tickets remain. I'd love to monitor the numbers. Hard to compare the 2 situations. North Carolina has 11 million people which is more than double the population of Utah and Idaho combined.

Re: Boise/BYU ticket sales
Of course you're right about population. But my borderline rhetorical question really had to do about the contrast between support for college football in the south and in the "Mormon corridor" of Utah/Idaho/Nevada/No Arizona. As has been noted, even the previously passionate support for all of the basketball-playing D-1 schools has really waned over the last 15-20 years or so. Football isn't nearly as important hereabouts. We here are a different breed of animal.ProvoAggie wrote: ↑September 21st, 2021, 2:06 pmHard to compare the 2 situations. Boise already gave back their tickets you can see them in section 215. We may not quite get sell it out, but it will be close. It is clear Boise is not brining the amount of fans they have brought in the past which is a great thing.rAggie wrote: ↑September 21st, 2021, 12:48 pmI'm sure envious of you guys who can worry about things more important than how many tickets have been sold, but it's something that bugs me, I can't help it.

Bracing for impact as I write this..
I have 4 season tickets in section 105 (coming from the Wasatch Front.) There are a few open seats down the aisle for me that I was thinking about picking up. Then I look at the price. $89???
I wasn't expecting that at all. That seems pretty steep. Is my Utah cheapness showing through? I was expecting like $50ish. Someone calibrate me.

There are plenty of 35 dollar seats available as well.
89 for the game of the year (arguably) seems a deal to me.
I just convinced two more Aggies from Holladay to make the trip, so I'm doing my part.

Re: Boise/BYU ticket sales
Some Zoobie at work offered me $300 a ticket for my seats. Of course they're not for sale, but the fact that the tickets are sold out already is an indication that they were priced too LOW for this game (whereas the Boise tickets may have been priced a titch too high).

Dang I just went and listed mine for $1,000 each, figured what the heck. I will probably not leave them up though, I'm imagining the empty feeling in my gut if they sold, I definitely want to be in the stadium when the Lard's ranked team gets punched in the face.
