Tatum Out for A while
Didn't see it posted elsewhere, but sounds like Tatum is out for a while.

Re: Tatum Out for A while
this is a huge loss to our defense, if bonds knee doesn't heal soon we could have some major problems in the secondary

Re: Tatum Out for A while
Sucks for Tatum he was playing well. You could really tell Bond was not at 100% on Saturday. This for sure hurts the team. I feel bad for Tatum and hope he has a good recovery.

Re: Tatum Out for A while
I could not really tell where/how Tatum got injured on that play. Even when they replayed it, I didn't see anything that looked like it should have been an injury. Just bad luck. I feel for him and hope he recovers quickly and fully.
Did they say what the injury was?

Re: Tatum Out for A while
I think our secondary was good up until bond got hurt against WSU, he missed UND game, and then was obviously not 100% against AFA. With Tatum and a healthy Bond playing together, our secondary was pretty good.

Re: Tatum Out for A while
This is a good question. Reynolds and Bond played together a bunch after Tatum went out but McGary has looked really good on some ST plays and was in toward the end of the game against AFA. I could see either one out there. I also wonder if Ajani Carter could be used a bit back there or if he stays at his backup striker spot behind Gilliam.

Re: Tatum Out for A while
Is Crew Wakely completely out of the picture on the depth chart? He was a very athletic QB in high school that has been tossed around between the QB group and the S group like he has leprosy. Does he bring any value/depth to the S position?Aglicious wrote: ↑September 20th, 2021, 3:37 pmThis is a good question. Re: Tatum Out for A while
Not sure anything official has been announced but to me it looked like his ankle. He really came with some force on that hit and it looked like his foot stuck in the turf when he absorbed some of the hit as well. The way his held his leg when going off the field made me believe it was not a knee but something lower.

Bond was benched for poor play NOT because of injury.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑September 20th, 2021, 2:11 pmSucks for Tatum he was playing well. You could really tell Bond was not at 100% on Saturday. This for sure hurts the team. I feel bad for Tatum and hope he has a good recovery.

Re: Tatum Out for A while
Yeah, there's no "maybe for the whole year" about that one if that's what it is. A rehab for that might even take into next season.

Re: Tatum Out for A while
I feel horrible for him. Worked so damned hard in the off season and was really our player of fall camp.
This sucks and I really wish him a speedy recovery.

Re: Tatum Out for A while
Honestly I haven't seen good safety play from any of them. At this point put in the Mcgray, marion, wakley, and green so who does better in game situations.

Re: Tatum Out for A while
this is where the HC gets paid the big bucks, BA needs to sit in on all Safeties meetings and play planning this week, and start some serious development with the next guys behind Tatum. The safeties coaches should have been doing this all along.
Also, I was very underwhelmed by the speed of the defense against the AFA offensive-skilled players. Our Defense is very limited personnel-wise.

Re: Tatum Out for A while
AFA had a field day passing because of discipline in the back end. Every time they wanted to throw the ball back there they could because Bond allowed himself to be sucked in by play action.

Re: Tatum Out for A while
I was also underwhelmed by the speed of the defense on the edges. AF has some good athletes, but thought the speed of the defense had improved to get to the edge quicker on the pitches.LoveMyAggies wrote: ↑September 20th, 2021, 11:27 pmthis is where the HC gets paid the big bucks, BA needs to sit in on all Safeties meetings and play planning this week, and start some serious development with the next guys behind Tatum. I'm nervous about the whole back end! Boise may make a mess of that.

That pretty much sums it up. This has been an on going issue his entire career. Our opponents see this.

Has Kyle Mayberry gotten much PT? I haven’t heard his name at all. The guy started at KU and should be serviceable.

Re: Tatum Out for A while
He did play late in the fourth. They had had it with poor safety and cornerback play.slcagg wrote: ↑September 21st, 2021, 9:18 amI saw him playing last night when watching the 4th quarter of Air Force.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑September 21st, 2021, 9:12 amHas Kyle Mayberry gotten much PT? Re: Tatum Out for A while
What’s concerning is Banda was the safety coach at Miami and that’s always been his group. Disappointing they weren’t coached up better during the summer. HOWEVER, I love what Banda brings as a recruiter and his aggressive D can be fun.

I mean, if you look at Miami over the last few years, it seems they have games when they looked dominant and games when they looked completely lost.
I suspect that’ll be the case here too.

Re: Tatum Out for A while
Watching the AFA game again I can tell you that the defensive secondary was lost and not just them, but the linebackers too. If I were coaching them, it'd be like herding cats based on that one game.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑September 21st, 2021, 10:02 amI mean, if you look at Miami over the last few years, it seems they have games when they looked dominant and games when they looked completely lost.

Re: Tatum Out for A while
You can coach a kid up all you want BUT if they can't execute the game plan once they hit the field, that's on the kid. We had two guys really struggle Saturday night which is why you found Monte McGary on the field on the last drive.
