Could very well be what helps Scarver break the record, sending the message that kicking to Thompkins isn't that much beter of an option!

I’ll be interested in seeing if Scarver can get an eighth career TD return this year.

Even if he breaks the record, it might be short-lived. Marcus Jones of Houston (and formerly Troy) got his sixth career kickoff TD return today in the final 30 seconds to give Houston a 44-37 win against SMU.

Jones is a COVID sophomore (playing his third year). He has two TD kickoff returns this year. He also has two TD punt returns this season. He had two in one game during his freshman year at Troy.

He has nine career return touchdowns (3 punts, 6 kickoffs). With his career probably only slightly more than halfway over, I think he will eventually overtake Scarver.

This is Jones’ 4th year. He only has one more after this if he chooses to utilize the COVID rule. But to your point, yes, it could be a very short-lived record.

Thankfully Scarver gets another game against NMSU. If he breaks the record next week, 3 of his 8 career TDs will have come against NMSU.

Catching punts is more important than returning punts. I think that may explain why Scarver doesn't return punts.
