Kick/Catch Interfernce

Post by Aggie84025 » October 23rd, 2021, 9:51 am

What a terrible call the kick/catch interference was. There is no halo rule anymore. The USU defender did not interfere with the defender to make the catch. What really pissed me off more is he threw the flag after he fumbled. Totally BS call.

Wasn't the ref who made the call behind the play anyway? If memory serves me right the ref that the threw flag was to the north west behind the play. I didn't think he had the best view of it to be making a call.

The ref that threw that flag was completely out of position to make that call.

How did that not get reviewed?

Yeah, what is the rule for reviews? They review turnovers, right? But not penalties (except targeting), right? So what happens if you have both on the same play?

It is a judgement call like holding or pass interference which are plays that can't be reviewed.

What is even worse is just because you throw the flag does not mean you can't pick it up after discussing with the other refs (who had better views of play).

That call was very bad. Another bad call was the "taunting" call. Our WR caught the ball, and him and the DB had some words, but close referee ran up and told them to chill and all looked good. However, right at the end of the referee coming over to break up the conversation, the Sideline ref throws a flag standing 15 yards away.

I didn’t think it was that bad of a call. I think he could have been called for similar things in previous games. It was bound to happen with his frequent reactions to his success.

He got pummeled on that play, but then popped right back up. He didn't push anyone, he didn't gesture, he just popped up and told him he wasn't good enough. I like competitive emotion in my sports.

You don’t have to push anyone to be called for taunting, and he did do more than just innocently pop up. It for sure could have easily been a no call, but I am simply saying that I didn’t think it was horrible that he got a penalty.

I thought it was a good call. In my opinion he went beyond cheering for the catch and was rubbing it in to the other player. Certainly worse have not been called, but it was a good call.

And it probably won’t be the last time he gets called for it. He consistently stares down his defender multiple times per game.

I agree it was the right call. If I was coaching and had a player get that call I would have him sit out at least a series. No excuse for that kind of stuff in my opinion. Let your play do your talking and zip it.

My guess on the taunting call was that he had been warned.

That’s very possible. He seems to have pushed it a bit this year. But the guy truly is owning defensive backfields

Is this actually true? I see flags getting picked up all the time. “There is no flag for… fill in the blank”

It is correct. When they pick up a flag it's because they discussed it and as a committee determined that there shouldn't have been a penalty.

My question is was that the same ref that called the I interference call?

I think one thing the pretty much every fan in the conference can agree upon is that MWC officials suck. Maybe it's because we're not a P5 conference and we can't afford good officials?

We just need to accept that good college officials aren't college officials for long, as the NFL scoops up the best ones and lets the college game keep the poor ones.

The Mountain West and Big 12 share officials.
