Preferred 2022 Schedule
We have 4 games that have dates decided for 2022. UConn, Bama, Weber, and BYU. We know who and where we play for conference play. I thought I would put together my optimal schedule. Bold Games have locked-in dates.
Aug 27 - vs UConn
Sep 3 - at Bama
Sep 10 - vs Weber State
Sep 17 - vs Air Force
Sep 24 - bye week
Sep 30 - at BYU
Oct 8 - vs New Mexico
Oct 15 - vs UNLV
Oct 22 - at Colorado State
Oct 29 - extra bye week
Nov 5 - at Wyoming
Nov 12 - vs San Jose State
Nov 19 - at Hawaii
Nov 26 - at Boise State
Dec 3 - MW Championship Game
General logic is to try and minimize big games back to back. We get the benefit of the extra bye week and I think using that end of October/start of November would be perfect. No reason to use both of them too close. I like playing AF early and with a bye week after because playing them late in the season causing injuries could be horrible.

Also because I'm bored, here is my projected record based on this schedule. If I am 51% leaning L, I'll put L. But other than Bama, I think every game is very within reach.thegreendalegelf wrote: ↑December 29th, 2021, 11:01 amWe have 4 games that have dates decided for 2022. UConn, Bama, Weber, and BYU. Re: Preferred 2022 Schedule
We play week 0 which is nice. I hope UConn and Weber games stay on Saturday and are evening games which would produce really good crowds. I hope we get an additional home conference game in September which would be great for attendance.

Re: Preferred 2022 Schedule
I would prefer a bye week before AF as they are the only option team on the schedule, and we have trouble defending it every year.

Re: Preferred 2022 Schedule
I would rather have Boise St. earlier in the schedule. It seems that when we play them at the end of the season and have any chance of MWC game, they always ruin it. Even though we lost to them this year, it was nice to get it out of the way and not have that game looming. Put them in the Oct. 15th slot or after the extra bye week.

Not that we've had any success in Boise any other week, but I'm over the whole "Playing In Boise On The Final Weekend With The Division Title On The Line" scenario we saw in 2014 and 2018.

Re: Preferred 2022 Schedule
Don't think this could look any better. Air Force early and with good weather is always beneficial for us. Moving that bye week forward one week would also be good. I don't think we will be lucky enough to get a front-loaded schedule with five home games before Oct 22, but man that would be optimal. Not infrequently, we have played either AFA or CSU on the road the week of Thanksgiving. I wouldn't be surprised if we ended the season with CSU and Boise was somewhere in October. Laramie in November sucks, but so does Laramie in every other month of the year.thegreendalegelf wrote: ↑December 29th, 2021, 11:01 amWe have 4 games that have dates decided for 2022. Aug 27 - vs UConn
Sep 3 - at Bama
Sep 10 - vs Weber State W
Sep 17 - vs Air Force W – Good to catch them early in the year
Sep 24 - bye week – Nice to have after Air Force
Sep 30 - at BYU – Good to be after a bye due to a short week
Oct 8 - at Hawaii – Travel to Hawaii on a long week
Oct 15 - vs New Mexico – Manageable opponent after Hawaii Week
Oct 22 - at Wyoming – Not to late, so weather should be ok.
Oct 29 - vs San Jose State – home game between two away games
Nov 5 - at Colorado State – avoid travel two straight weeks
Nov 12 - extra bye week – a bye before playing Boise would be an added bonus
Nov 19 - at Boise State – A big game scheduled the week half the SEC plays FCS teams sets a bigger stage (avoids rivalry games on Thanksgiving Weekend).
Nov 26 - vs UNLV – Have a cold weather game for a team from a warm area (could swap with San Jose)
Dec 3 - MW Championship Game
Overall – 3 September home games, 2 October home games, and one November home game makes for better attendance.

Re: Preferred 2022 Schedule
I'm wondering how many away games I'll be able to make next season. Strongly considering going to the Alabama game, along with a trip back up to Huntsville to see folks. Outside of Hawai'i, I see any of the other away games as possibilities for me. Might have to temper my expectations a bit as I'm teaching cello lessons Saturday mornings, now, and I wouldn't want to cancel on my students too many times. Also, given that I only made it to half of the home games this year, maybe I should really make my goal to get to all the home games, first.

The Bama game interests me the most since we could win that game. I know what some of you are going to say, but if look at the numbers and data it is a winnable game no matter what folks say.

I think a week 0 game helps, because there is some truth to “the most improvement occurs between the first and second game of the season.” Just look at the FCS teams that beat FBS teams this year.

Uhg I dread playing Colorado State every year no matter what, for some reason we always find a way to play them too close, even when we're good, they always snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, I hate that, I wish we'd just kick their a$$es

Re: Preferred 2022 Schedule
I love being at the Mav as much as anyone, but I'd prefer to not be there freezing my tail off at the end of November. Ideally, I think the schedule should be heavy with home games early, and away games in warm locations at the end. Unfortunately, this year's schedule just doesn't allow for it. Our three West division crossover games will be the same as 2021, Hawaii, San Jose, and UNLV. Of those, San Jose and UNLV will be in Logan, only Hawaii will be away. Our only somewhat warm weather Mountain division opponent is New Mexico, and we get them in Logan as well. I realize this doesn't have any direct bearing on the timing of the home games, but for the team, it looks like November is going to be cold no matter where we play, with the possible exception of a November away game in Hawaii.
Edit: As I look at this, I realize that I'm conflating two really separate issues: 1- the schedule of the home vs away games. 2- the location we will be playing each team on the schedule. Anyway, I hope you get my meaning. I don't want to freeze in the Mav in late November.
