Heard from someone up there that knows him and the program very well. Said he’s an absolute steal of a PWO, he’s a huge weight room guy and said he believes Ellis will earn a scholarship hes too good to go unnoticed.

Re: Commit tonight
I think LB is where we are thin. DT seems to be pretty solid 2-3 deep. DE could use some depth but the top guys look real good (although replacing Heninger won't be easy). I would like to see at least one more LB come in and push for playing time. Where are we with schollies?

I think we are real close to staying put with what we have. I haven't heard any talk about adding a linebacker.Yossarian wrote: ↑January 10th, 2022, 10:10 amI think LB is where we are thin. A reliable field goal kicker. I really hope the coaching staff doesn't ignore this.

Re: Commit tonight
Word I got is he played mostly LB. Some DE. Carried the rock a bit too. One of the 4A schools in central WA got worked pretty decent by his little ol’ 2A School this spring. Supposed to have a good streak of nasty in him with a chip on his shoulder. I’ll bet he fits in well at USU.

I like how he catches the ball with his hands away from his body. Seems to high point real well too.
Hard to find anything on him. Seems there is a 247 profile but it says he is in Florida and a 2024 HS class but then everything else says he is in Cali and 2022 class?

Re: Commit tonight
According to what he posted on his Twitter, he has great stats his senior year. I've gotta believe he's a PWO though as his only offers were D2
Senior stats 10 games (55 recs 1005 yards 12 TDS) average 100.5 yards a game and 18.3 yards per catch.
•Wide Receiver
•2022 Grad Orange Glen High School
•6’2 190 pounds
•3.00 Gpa
•1st team all league receiver
•Alex Spanos North ALLSTAR MVP

I’m ok with that. Long and fluid athlete with good skills. Seems to have good hands and play making instincts. Nice under the radar pickup with a high upside. He can grow in our system for a year or two and then be ready to contribute.aggies22 wrote:Malachi Keels will be on scholarship.

Re: Commit tonight
I love our Utah/poly commits and all of our transfer commits a ton, but I hope our coaches are just better talent evaluators than every other D1 program when it comes to the non-Utah/poly high school kids we are bringing in. The coaches have done enough to earn the benefit of the doubt, but I won’t lie and say I’m not a little concerned with the overall quality (on paper) of the non-Utah/non-poly parts of our high school class.

Re: Commit tonight
I think those are valid concerns. Obviously the coaching staff has shown they can bring in transfer talent to compete and make an impact. They have also shown the ability to coach well and make good decisions, but time will tell if their high school recruiting was spot on.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑January 14th, 2022, 7:42 amI love our Utah/poly commits and all of our transfer commits a ton, but I hope our coaches are just better talent evaluators than every other D1 program when it comes to the non-Utah/poly high school kids we are bringing in. Idk why people worry so much about this... How many offers did the vigil brothers have?! I know they were from Utah but still, and then Bobby Wagner??? What about Chuckie keeton??? Jalen Davis... We were his only D1 offer and look at what he did. I don't care about paper and offers from other schools. If our coaches think they can develop them then I'm sure they can develop themineptimusprime wrote: ↑January 14th, 2022, 7:42 amI love our Utah/poly commits and all of our transfer commits a ton, but I hope our coaches are just better talent evaluators than every other D1 program when it comes to the non-Utah/poly high school kids we are bringing in. Re: Commit tonight
Yeah if this was a Gary2.0 commit I would be more concerned. But this coaching staff has so far shown that they know what they are doing.
The guy is 6-2 and looks pretty quick and looks to have decent hands. Even if he has some other deficiencies in his game I think he may be worth the risk.

I think you have Gary 2.0 PTSD...but to be fair, there is no sample to draw from yet. The only non-transfer out of state non-poly HS guy we took last year was NyNy and it is way to early to draw any conclusions there.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑January 14th, 2022, 7:42 amI love our Utah/poly commits and all of our transfer commits a ton, but I hope our coaches are just better talent evaluators than every other D1 program when it comes to the non-Utah/poly high school kids we are bringing in. Gates is listed as HS, but he was essentially a xfer from BC.
Anyway, we don't know how these coaches will do in this category, but their xfers imply they know how to evaluate talent

Re: Commit tonight
Funny thing about life, you're good at something and work your (I can't express myself without swearing) off doing it, you're going to be first in a lot of things. I'm not worried about who hasn't offered a kid or what they look like on paper, they've proven they can coach and they've proven they can get kids in the door... two big pieces of the puzzle, I'll assume they can recruit quality, until proven otherwise.

CoAches are paid to win game and if NOT a single one recognizes a players talent, that’s sometimes a good indicator. There are diamonds in the rough but you don’t to have 85 players that not another coach wanted and expect to win games.Stockypoo2212 wrote:Idk why people worry so much about this... Another point, you have to think the high school talent market has been depressed somewhat by the transfer portal. More kids are flying under the radar than in years past.2004AG wrote: ↑January 14th, 2022, 11:33 amCoAches are paid to win game and if NOT a single one recognizes a players talent, that’s sometimes a good indicator.
