2022 MW Schedule
Any word on when the conference schedule will be released? Be nice to know so people can start making travel plans to the games they want to attend.

Thanks, I don't know why it takes them that long to finalize the schedule. All the out of conference games are already set so they know the dates they have to work with. Seems like they could release them sooner.BigBlueDart wrote: ↑January 21st, 2022, 11:59 amThe 2021 MWC schedule was announced March 5 last year.

Re: 2022 MW Schedule
I know after the season we just had we are all anxious but the first of March seems pretty reasonable. And this is coming from a guy that hates the Mountain West front office.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑January 21st, 2022, 12:02 pmThanks, I don't know why it takes them that long to finalize the schedule. 2022 MW Schedule
Here’s a question. Knowing who is on the schedule and that we play in week 0 this next season, what is every one’s preferred order to play the teams and place the two bye weeks?
Here’s our 4 OC games and my crack at a preferred schedule order. I understand some games could be Friday instead of Saturday.

Oct 8 San Jose

Re: 2022 MW Schedule
Doesn't NMSU owe us a return game? Or am I missing something (2020 perhaps?) And not to threadjack, but don't we play Miss. State in 2023 or is that 2024?

NMSU played in Logan in 2018. That series is done.
2023 is Iowa. 2024 is Miss. St.

Re: 2022 MW Schedule
Thanks for sharing. Didn’t realize there was already a thread for this! I actually like your proposal too. I just couldn’t decide if I wanted to play air force that early in the season or not. I agree that it’d be nice to have a bye after the AF game and one before BYU-P. Would love to play Boise over Thanksgiving weekend with a chance to claim the division.thegreendalegelf wrote:This is my preferred schedule for 2022 - viewtopic.php?f=4&t=60756AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑January 21st, 2022, 1:17 pmHere’s a question. I would prefer we get a bye before AF for preparation. I know yours is just your preference, but below are some possibilities for 9/17 and 9/24.AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑January 21st, 2022, 1:17 pmHere’s a question. September 17 and 24th there are only certain options available based on other teams' OOC schedule. For 9/17 the Aggies could play against the following conference teams AF, WYO or SJSU. For 9/24 the Aggies could play against the following teams AF or UNLV. Just spit balling, but I could see them having us play at WYO on 9/17 and at home against AF or UNLV on the 9/24. I hope we get a home game on either of those dates 9/17 or 9/24.

Any chance we take advantage of a 13th game since we're playing on the island this year?

Re: 2022 MW Schedule
However the schedule looks when it comes out, all of our effort, energy, preparation, and focus between now and when the games are played should be with the purpose of beating Boise State and BYU. Those two wins will legitimize the season more than any others. If we are prepared to win those two games, other wins will certainly come. But we need to figure out a way to turn the corner and beat those teams that have more of a national name/reputation. Besides, I'm sick of losing to them.

No chance. Coaches would much rather have an extra bye week than a 13th game. Nobody who played at Hawaii in 2021 picked up a 13th game.andytheaggie wrote: ↑January 21st, 2022, 4:37 pmAny chance we take advantage of a 13th game since we're playing on the island this year?

Why shouldn't we? We can still have 2 bye weeks AND play the 13th game. Especially since we have a week zero contest. Since we're the defending conference champions, maybe the conference front office won't screw us over on scheduling, for a change.

Re: 2022 MW Schedule
LKG, I am trying to think of where we have been hung out to dry by the conference scheduling and can't recall an especially egregious schedule we've had since joining the MWC. I may be missing one, to be fair. Having said that, I would like to see a couple things from MWC scheduling:
1. A commitment to be as flexible as possible with November home games. Ideally I would like to establish Boise vs. USU as a predictably scheduled game (adds to the appeal of making it a rivalry) that is set as "First Weekend in November" or something like that. That gives us both a strong November revenue game AND builds up the rivalry, which we should try to do. The other part of this is that USU is never given 3 November home games, and one of the two home games is against a West Division opponent where we can take advantage of the weather difference.
2. Start the season with a non-competitive matchup (e.g. UNLV or UNM for this next year), then schedule a good conference game (AFA, CSU, or possibly WYO as a rivalry) to spread out the difficulty for the contenders. You want to space your best games if you're the MWC, no? This is fairly controllable (though not completely) as they'd have a fairly good idea of who will be competitive in the coming season.

Re: 2022 MW Schedule
I understand what you are saying here, but I couldn't disagree more. I think we've moved past this as a program, as was demonstrated this year losing to both and having our best year on record.Yossarian wrote: ↑January 21st, 2022, 5:11 pmHowever the schedule looks when it comes out, all of our effort, energy, preparation, and focus between now and when the games are played should be with the purpose of beating Boise State and BYU. The Wagon Wheel used to take the sting out of 6-6 seasons.
Boise used to to be the path to the Mountain.
Neither resonate anymore.
I think AFA will be tougher than Boise next year, and I see that program in a slow state of decline. Regression back to their norm, which in my mind is a version of Trucker Tech. Boise to me is just as valuable a game as AFA/Wyoming/CSU etc... not more.
At to BYU, love beating those guys, but I think both our school and the one in Salt Lake would trade losses to them in favor of hanging banners in December.

This year was supposed to be a rebuilding year for AFA because they lost so many starters the year prior. It ended up not playing out that way, and they return the majority of their starters.
