Wisconsin fires coach
Who went 67-26 and won a lot of big bowl games.
I’m waiting for him to say but what about last year?
https://www.espn.com/college-football/s ... ources-say
In all seriousness I would not have fired him this quickly if I were Wisconsin.

Re: Wisconsin fires coach
So Chryst had only been at Wisconsin for one year after taking over a 1 win team? Seems like apples and oranges but go ahead. Fire Blake!

I'm actually really smart, probably smarter than you are so if you disagree with what I have stated in this post, you are likely wrong (and dumb).

Re: Wisconsin fires coach
Obviously I’m saying this a little tongue in cheek. I think Wisconsin firing chryst at this point is crazy and I’d say usu even having that discussion at this point would be crazyJonnyCienPesos wrote: ↑October 2nd, 2022, 7:55 pmSo Chryst had only been at Wisconsin for one year after taking over a 1 win team? Hey if I were to fired though and get a $16m payout, I’d say go ahead.

Having an in demand coach in waiting in Jim Leonhard probably accelerated this a bit

San Diego State and Boise State should honestly see if there is a chance to land him.

Re: Wisconsin fires coach
College football business is insane with all the money at the P5 levels. Schools are willing to eat multi-million buyouts without blinking. Everyone knew Frost would get fired this year after their bad start, and Nebraska still canned him two weeks before his buyout would've dropped in half. They paid an extra $7.5 million just to get rid of him two weeks early lol.
Coaches used to get 4-5 years to prove themselves. Now if you aren't winning in year two you are a candidate to get fired. I'm not saying there is never a reason to fire a coach after a couple years, but the expectations are out of control.
Auburn already wants Harsin out and he's only in year two, but could likely be the next to go.
Even if you have a string of good years (like Chryst) you used to get the benefit of the doubt during a bad year - not anymore. They'll give him a nice buyout and go searching for the next.
If you can get one head coaching gig at a P5 school, you are set for life regardless of how you perform given all the guaranteed money. Don't raise your kids to be athletes, raise them to be football coaches lol. Longer career and no injury risks.

Re: Wisconsin fires coach
That's how we fly this position, come to USU, do good a few seasons, use that to earn a better gig at a P5... BAM! Set for life! WINNING! Just ask JLS, GA and MW!

So tough guy. Make the case for Utah State firing Blake Anderson. Include where the buyout money will come from.coolag wrote:Don't worry Mrs. Anderson Blake isn't going anywhere....................for now.JonnyCienPesos wrote: ↑October 2nd, 2022, 7:55 pmSo Chryst had only been at Wisconsin for one year after taking over a 1 win team? Re: Wisconsin fires coach
I was talking to the local grocery store owner here in our little town -he's done very well in a Lumber Yard about 40 miles away and recently repurchased the store (he'd owned it about 10 years ago, and it was about to close)
He said he bought it because he doesn't want to live in a town without a grocery, even if really small.
I quipped (sarcastically) Everyone needs a tax break.
His response was -as an accountant, surely you understand that losing money isn't affordable even for taxes - it's still a loss of 60% and that's just not good business sense.
tl:dr - they really can't afford it, that money would be much better served somewhere else in the AD

Re: Wisconsin fires coach
Great analogy and I certainly agree. Surely there is an academic oriented endeavor or research program that would be better served rather than eating millions in buying out the football coach. It is is still a university.AGinNEIowa wrote: ↑October 3rd, 2022, 8:06 pmI was talking to the local grocery store owner here in our little town -he's done very well in a Lumber Yard about 40 miles away and recently repurchased the store (he'd owned it about 10 years ago, and it was about to close)

Or, since it's athletic department money, the women's teams gets new uniforms and locker room upgrades.

Chryst sounded and looked very defeated in his last two press conferences. I think he may have had enough. Don’t know for sure but just saying watch his last two post game pressers.slcagg wrote: ↑October 2nd, 2022, 7:52 pmWho went 67-26 and won a lot of big bowl games.

Meh, I can't stand all the money that is spent on college athletics. I'd prefer the money go to academic endeavors or toward programs to lower the cost of tuition.AGinNEIowa wrote: ↑October 3rd, 2022, 9:21 pmOr, since it's athletic department money, the women's teams gets new uniforms and locker room upgrades.

Re: Wisconsin fires coach
I’m sure for a program like Wisconsin that if they go into a period of decline they could potentially have a financial impact of greater than $11m in football. I’m sure someone is crunching numbers behind the scenes on this type of stuff. But maybe I’m wrong?
Btw really cool thing the other day. Wisconsin volleyball sold out the kohl center for a match. Had close to 17k people to watch.

As a HFC, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Colorado would be pretty far down on my list of jobs I'd want to take a stab at. But hey, if they want to dump a boat load of money on my front lawn, do I care?

A girl I graduated with in Iowa is one of the star players on Wisconsin. It was pretty cool to see her win a national title last year and continue to do well so far this season.slcagg wrote: ↑October 3rd, 2022, 9:46 pmI’m sure for a program like Wisconsin that if they go into a period of decline they could potentially have a financial impact of greater than $11m in football.
