Haha wac offUSU78 wrote: ↑March 20th, 2024, 4:08 pmWhen the Airport 8 left the MWC, the so-called WAC-off 8 kept WAC moniker. It still has some value, if somewhat less than before. Was that a mistake?
I tend to think not: FSU, UTEP, Vegas, et al. made a reasoned decision and established a conservative approach to rebuilding and dealing with further defections.
I'm fine either way: MWC or PAC+? work.

Re: MWC Schools
Agreed. There is nothing wrong with the MWC name, but the PAC name carries much more history/impact/weight in the world of College Athletics.
Plus, if feels a bit more comfortable to a few former PAC members and helps us grab a few healthy WCC non football playing programs, this can very easily become the premier athletic conference in the western US.

Re: MWC Schools
I feel like if the PAC moniker continues that people will always be using air quotes when saying the name. I'd prefer to just grow the MWC brand. And N64 rocks, so shut up.

Right. Do you think anyone is really going to think we are the old PAC?BigBlueDart wrote: ↑April 1st, 2024, 1:32 pmI feel like if the PAC moniker continues that people will always be using air quotes when saying the name. I'd prefer to just grow the MWC brand. And N64 rocks, so shut up.
Everyone knows the history. Look forward, not backward.

Re: MWC Schools
Agree. Unless you are a complete dolt, you are not going to mistake this league for the old PAC conferences.
The quick and easy ways to eliminate this (if it is a concern) is to expand the league into a combination that has never existed.
The Cougs/Beavs are still living a pipe dream of just returning to the old days. It is not happening.
I say invite WSU/OSU to create a PAC14 and also see about adding the Zags and Gaels to create a PAC16.
PAC, PacWest, PAC14 or PAC16 are all instantly recognizable conference names for geography, and I think bring some immediate gravitas.
Basketball in that league would be SCARY good. Maybe too good?

In my opinion, any continued use of any form of PAC will not carry gravitas, just scorn. Similar to the WAC.RogerAndersen wrote: ↑April 4th, 2024, 3:01 pmAgree. Unless you are a complete dolt, you are not going to mistake this league for the old PAC conferences.

I would also add that Gonzaga is a pipe dream.
They don’t fit with a bunch of public universities, and would not really be better off with us than they are now. Personally, I think we need to let that one go.

I’m not bashing the N64. I’m bashing the MW logo. May Goldeneye never die!
