Re: "College Super League"
70 permanent P4 Schools, and 10 spots for promotion/relegation.
Conceptually it is okay, but the 70 spots for teams who can be bad every year without relegation is just perpetuating the problem that exists right now.

Re: "College Super League"
It really should be about 40 teams max.

Pro/rel in college football would be amazing.
Having 70 permanent teams completely guts it.

100% agree. It's all or nothing with a promotion/relegation system.3rdGenAggie wrote: ↑April 5th, 2024, 11:56 amPro/rel in college football would be amazing.

Re: "College Super League"
While a pro/reg system has some value to help programs that perform, without some leveling of the resource model, I think it would just be the same as today: false hope of same league.

Re: "College Super League"
Yep. No way the P4 gives much ground on this without a fight.
They think the are being generous by allowing the single highest rated G5 program into their playoff after every P4 league champion and the highest rated 7 P4 are taken.
For the honor of even being invited to the party, I fully expect the highest rated G5 will have the privelege of annually squaring off against the overall rated #1 program in the country.

You thinking ohio state, Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Texas a&m would like the idea of a salary cap?

Re: "College Super League"
This is exactly why I'd like to see some collaboration between the G5, lower level P4 schools (maybe), and FCS to create a promotion/relegation system based on regionally affiliated divisions/conferences.trevordude wrote: ↑April 8th, 2024, 9:04 pmIf you kick the serfs off the land, are you still a ruler?

Equity nor Equality were ever the goal. The big boys feel entitled to all of the money because, to them, they are the bringers of it. They see the rest of the teams as leeches that suck resources from them.

Re: "College Super League"
The concept of promotion/relegation might work well for non-P4 College Football. As would the idea of a real CFP12 or CFP16 tournament.
I just never see the P4 ceding much control. Instead, what we will get is a carefully over-lorded and curated FBS College Football Playoff structure designed the P4 by the P4.

Re: "College Super League"
This is why I think the have nots ought to band together. Create their own format and stop playing the P4 teams. Tell them this is the deal we are done dealing with them. If no one takes Alabama's money to play games the system fails. Unfortunately that's what keeps everyone else afloat financially.RogerAndersen wrote: ↑April 9th, 2024, 2:03 pmThe concept of promotion/relegation might work well for non-P4 College Football. Re: "College Super League"
The whole idea of a super league crumbles if no one can bloat their record with easy wins. The teams that can't keep up are going to be tired of losing.pilotaggie wrote: ↑April 10th, 2024, 9:21 pmThis is why I think the have nots ought to band together. Re: "College Super League"
Personally I can't wait for the year Ohio State and Alabama play each other in a best of 13 format. 6 home games each them a final neutral game if needed.

Re: "College Super League"
Yes. This is the interesting thing about sports. We have this one little thing called "winning" and "losing"
Shocker Alert: More programs would like to win rather than lose.
It does not really work out that way for all of the P5(4) programs unless you sort of manipulate the system as has been done forever in college Football.
This is the arrangement that the P5(4) have put together.
- P5(4) teams (the haves) control the vast majority of the money.
- The P5(4) Play a couple of games per year at home against the g5 teams (have nots) in exchange for a payday.
- In addition to having the home field/crowd advantage, the P5(4) will insist on using their own P5(4) officials.
- The G5 programs are mostly all struggling for money and the P5(4) mostly have plenty
- The P5(4) teams are happy to pay the G5 teams to come into the gladiator arena (P5/4 home field) and get slaughtered in front of their home crowd. Money they have, but what they really need is a W.
And thus, the ruse continues... The P5(4) continue flush with cash and the G5 continue to struggle.
