Coaches and bowl games

Post by GameFAQSAggie » December 10th, 2024, 10:39 am

This is unrelated to us and the fact that we recently hired him, but one thing Bronco notoriously did after accepting the offer at Virginia was he remained with BYU to coach them in their bowl game. Has there been a single coach since him that has accepted an offer and agreed to remain with their old team through the bowl game to coach the team? I have searched and every coach this year is making their old school get an interim coach. Barry Odom is making UNLV have an interim coach lead them. Even the Texas Tech OC who just accepted the Florida Atlantic offer isn't staying through their bowl game, and Matt Entz isn't staying through the bowl game either. The Jacksonville Jaguars Running Backs coach who just got hired as Kennesaw State's head coach isn't staying for the Jaguars last five games.

I do remember Brent Guy talked about it being important to finish what you start to explain why he was coaching Arizona State in their bowl game, just like him and Dirk Koetter did with Boise after they had accepted the Arizona State jobs. We also had Gary remain with Utah despite the fact that they were the first team we were playing the following season, and Blake as an OC under Larry Fedora at Southern Miss had accepted the North Caroline offer but agreed to coach Southern Miss in their bowl game.

Maybe the portal and need to recruit and re-recruit the inherited roster with it is probably the big reason why more if not all coaches aren't sticking around for bowl games like it used to be more popular to do.
