Re: Coaches salaries
Pat Hill is taking a cut in pay this next year that will put Fresno between San Diego State and UNLV.

Re: Coaches salaries
Skipping over the most obvious point, I noticed a few other things:
Chris Ault is still probably the most underpaid coach in all of college football. This is definitely true for this group. I think Nevada is crazy lucky to have a guy this good stick around for this little. Once Ault retires I really wonder if Nevada will start to drift back into obscurity. Rob Akey is pretty underpaid, too. I wouldn't be all too surprised if he gets grabbed by another school this offseason.
I'm torn as to whether Mike Locksley or Dave Christensen is more overpaid. Right now I'd give the nod to Locksley, though, as Christensen may just be having a bad year with his team.
And lastly, I couldn't believe that Gary is getting paid the lest here. We even jumped up his salary over what Guy was getting. I am really hoping that we have a plan on how to get the funding necessary to supply a respectable salary for the coach. If we expect any coach to bring Aggie football out of the basement, they deserve a lot more than this. What can I do to help most?

Isn't one of the main focuses of the new Competitive Excellence Fund increasing coach's salaries?

Re: Coaches salaries
Now think about our assistant salaries. Those are also at the bottom and people will leave especially as an assistant to get better pay. GA was making more than Guy as a DC at Utah I believe. It will take some time. I think Akey will be gone soon. he is a good Coach and there are many vacancies that will reward him better than Idaho.

One more thing is that Ault's and GA's Bonus is really a joke compared to everyone else on the list.

Re: Coaches salaries
Well, I will admit that the amount of money being dealt with in almost all aspects of college football is grotesque. In that light, I think that all FBS coaches are overpaid. But this is the world we live in, and if we want our program to succeed we have to look at how we are doing in things like this relative to the rest.dyedblue wrote:I'd give my left nut to make that kind of money.

Re: Coaches salaries
Oh, and I just took another quick look at the list. There are 13 schools that pay their coaches less than us, all MAC or Sun Belt schools. They are:
Arkansas St - $223,078
Ball St - $350,000
Bowling Green - $206,000
Buffalo - $338,000
Central Michigan - $350,000
Eastern Michigan - $316,000
Kent St - $190,000
Louisiana-Lafayette - $226,000
Louisiana-Monroe - $215,000
Miami(OH) - $300,000
North Texas - $289,161
Northern Illinois - $347,812
Western Kentucky - $225,000
Some of these schools offer bonuses which could potentially put them higher than what GA gets here.

Re: Coaches salaries
Do the numbers for GA reflect his new contract extention? Those look to be the numbers from the original contract. I would have thought that the extention upped the numbers a little.

I'd definitely vote Locksley. Seriously, the guy is 2-22 all time as a head coach.BigBlueDart wrote: I'm torn as to whether Mike Locksley or Dave Christensen is more overpaid. Right now I'd give the nod to Locksley, though, as Christensen may just be having a bad year with his team.

Re: Coaches salaries
According to that list he makes $2,142,056. Now that the death penalty is gone at SMU I'm thinking they are more than ready to start turning things around and making some noise. There must still be some boosters with deep pockets over there, because they aren't making their money off of attendance just yet.MrsH wrote:If I remember correctly, June Jones makes 2 million a year. Re: Coaches salaries
You young bucks and generation X-ers that say GA is getting paid too low?
Maybe for his profession with other peers, but for CACHE VALLEY? Hell, he's one of the richest next to Stew.
It always amazes me when you blokes say 375,000 is not very much pay.
And you wonder why this country is in a mess and going broke?
How much money does a person need?
If most of you have lived on what I have lived on for 30 years, you would all kill yourself tomorrow.
I am very content with my life, Wife, and family......A lot of Money does not equal happiness!

Re: Coaches salaries
Two things.
1. Chris Ault at Nevada = Stew Morrill at Utah State. Both are underpaid and both schools are lucky to have them.
2. I'm surpised how much Wyoming pays their football coach. I thought they were more on par with USU, but we've got a long way to go to reach $800k for our head football coach.

Have you noticed how our freedom of speech has been slowly erroed away since the advent of the internet and message boards.

Re: !st ammendment?
We don't want to moderate the boards but we also want to keep everything civil on here. I didn't edit your post but I do agree with the decision to do so. The purpose of this board is to discuss Utah State Athletics. When other topics become involved and offend other Aggie fans we step in. We've discussed not even having the Sandbox but we decided that it's a good forum to be able to discuss non sports related topics with other Aggies. Sometimes conversations in there go to far and we have to step in but we try to leave it alone. We don't want to drive Aggie fans away because of something that was said that doesn't even have anything to do with the purpose of this site. I'm sorry if you disagree with this.troutputz wrote:Soon everything a person says will be censored by those in charge!

Trout...I didn't edit your post either. I hadn't even seen it, but have now read the part that was edited out and fully back the decision that was made. Ever since the Sandbox was created, we have made it very clear that politics and religion have no place for the sports forums. We have learned from experience that when that is allowed, things can get out of control and off topic in a hurry. This is not some new rule. When in comes to politics, religion and similar subjects you and everyone else have a place to go and discuss them right here on this site....the Sandbox.
Let's all use this as a friendly reminder to keep politics and religion talk in the Sandbox. There are many here who don't want to have to read that stuff when they visit the sports forums. Thanks everyone.

Re: Coaches salaries
Sign me up. I know a few plays. Used to coach roller derby and if you can coach a woman on roller skates you can coach anybody!!
Seriously though. It seems to me that if you can't pay alot up front you have to be prepared to escalate a successful coach very quickly once he starts having succes to keep his attention. Seems like every year now we throw something else into the pot for Stew to just let him know we love and appreciate him. If gary starts having succes watch for us to do the same with him. I personally think these schools that pay millions without proven performance are nuts. I would think someone who believes in themselves would and should be willing to prove it. Then they deserve to be rewarded...

Re: Coaches salaries
You are absolutely correct. LOTS and LOTS of money over there!!!!! They already have started turning their program around and, imho, Coach Jones is worth every penny. The boosters do complain about attendance and I only recall one game that was sold out. I think they thought I was crazy because I was loud and brought a cow bell to every gameBigBlueDart wrote:According to that list he makes $2,142,056. Re: Coaches salaries
I wonder if his new extension upped the salary. Isn't that why they had the student vote to raise fees a couple of years ago?
And also, if you win, you get more money. Supposedly Hoke will be getting close to a million possibly with his extension. That's a big raise after 1 winning season.
