Re: Cory Calvert
Interesting. Here is an article about it:
http://www.denverpost.com/preps/ci_18320709
He says that he decommitted for personal reasons but didn't say much more than that.

I don't know anything about Calvert other than he's shown very well in AAU tournys. It feels bad when this happens, but he had enough class to do it early enough that we can sign another player.

I noticed the same thing stewusu98. I think Rose has found its easier to let Stew and Co. do the leg work and then they come in and put the pressure of the church on them.

This is what I was thinking as well. I hate seeing the BYU mention in that article but perhaps he simply sees the writing on the wall with how Stew and Co. have cleared the way for Davis. Although, if he is slated to leave on a mission as he states, then it should not be that big of a conflict - at least not at the PG spot.
Maybe he has been promised he can serve the "BYU mission" by either:
A. releasing the standard public statement that he has been called to do the Lord's work by being a member of the greatest missionary program on planet earth - BYU Basketball.
B. entering the real missionary field and serving at least 4 months, whereupon he can return with honor to serve along side his fellow missionary force. (This is the BYU equivalent of serving two missions)

Re: Cory Calvert
I think he was told he could serve a three month mission and be back
for his sophmore season.
for his sophmore season.

Re: Cory Calvert
But wait, this can't be. Wasn't it Bronco Billy and Rose Bud who said when their recruits commit they view it in the same light as a promise/covenant/act of integrity/contract/marriage vow/etc.???? Surely they wouldn't want to be seen working the dark side of a decommit. Sheesh, that would be like .... adultery! I guess those values only work one way. We tried like he!! to talk Riley out of it, but he was so insistent! After a while it starts to smell like Welty and Glick.
