Re: NMS game
We'd better hope whoever gave us 2 votes in the AP poll is not watching this game. What a crappy exhibition of college basketball. More fouls than assists, twice as many turnovers as assists, 11 players playing but only one player with more than one basket. Just wow.
Things can only get better in the second half.
Go Aggies!

This is not good basketball. It appears as though we failed to put together any type of offensive game plan.

Re: NMS game
It sucks that Seattle scored time after time in this gigantasaurs's face, and we can't do a doggone thing.
Just about as ugly as it gets.

Re: NMS game
And Shaw is a total whimp -- he can't handle any contact and doesn't know how to use his body to post up. Pretty obvious why Okla. St. didn't want him. This year and last year are not Stew types of teams - not aggressive or physical at all.40Aggie wrote:I know this isn't a news flash, but Stone and Lopez have frying pan hands.
I can't believe we've been so bothered by that big dumb, he can barely move.
And we didn't get to the foul line once in the 1st half. No aggressiveness on offense. Our post players don't know how to use their bodies.

Re: NMS game
This is NOT a matter of these guys just needing to play more together. The skill level, perimeter defense and shooting is marginal.
Re: NMS game
Reed isn't physical either. I don't see any help coming next year. Hopefully we can round up a couple juco posts that can play. Butterfield is the only player we have that is physical. Medlin is the only true scorer we have on this team.

Re: NMS game
Might as well turn it off after the next basket for NMSU because 47 is the points needed to win this game.
We would be 1-5 in MWC play after tonight.

Re: NMS game
This is just pathetic. We're making Boo Boo look like an all-star. We are so far from being competitive in this game against a mediocre NMS team. Stew can find no combination that works.

Re: NMS game
I've been saying this all year and also last year. Stew's recruiting has not been good recently despite the "blue-colored" glasses fans claiming otherwise. While Moore, Davis and Shanks should be fine EVENTUALLY, they are also very thin (Moore is very soft even for the the high school level); Davis may help.utaggies wrote:This is NOT a matter of these guys just needing to play more together. We need some strong, physical and talented JC post players -- Shaw will not get it done. When your center is better from 15 feet than 5 feet, you have the wrong center in a Stew system. What's worse is that Shaw looks slower than NMST's 7-5, 350 lb. center -- Shaw may be the softest post player I've ever seen. Time for some "counseling out" of players.

Re: NMS game
MJA won't have to wait for Frank. MJA or is it MJR, has been over-selling this USU team all year. Playing bad teams at home does not make a good team and this USU team is not and has not been good all year. The 14-1 record is a total red herring.utaggies wrote:Prepare for Frank to come looking for MJA in about 10 minutes.

Re: NMS game
I've been waiting for our lack of athleticism to show up...and here it is. Denver will hurt us, La Tech will run us out. Seattle up there will be tough...it's going to be a tough rest of the season.

Re: NMS game
The coaching staff might need an overhaul too. Too many players aren't mwc level. Recruiting needs to improve.

Re: NMS game
I blame Stew, Duryea, Jones, etc. plenty for poor recruiting. If you want to run a half court offense with lots of screens, you better recruit strong physical players that will set screens, post up, use their bodies, and shoot well. Very few USU players fit those requirements -- so yes, the coaches have been recruiting poorly and we've had lots of turnover on top of that.brian5562 wrote:Why are only players getting blamed for this?
When your 6-3 PG posts up better than the starting post players, there is a problem.

Can we rename this thread to USUfans.com (I can't express myself without swearing) Festival (Official Thread)? And Utaggies can use it for every game?

Or we can name it the MetsJetsAggies "doesn't know a thing about basketball even though he's been watching" thread and repost it every time MJA decides to predict the quality of USU's team.MetsJetsAggies wrote:Can we rename this thread to USUfans.com (I can't express myself without swearing) Festival (Official Thread)? Show me where I said we would be a top 3 MWC team this year? Next year I'll take any amount of money that we finish top 5. Re: NMS game
We're not as good as our record. We've known that all year (and so has Stew).
This is one game. One horrible game. Let's not bury the program and fire all the coaches just yet. Seems just a shade early. Remember losing down there by 30 a few years ago? The program survived that.

Re: NMS game
Right here, you said these players have the ability to win the MWC crown -- ha ha. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=25488 We'll be lucky to finish in the Top 4 of the WAC this year. Terrible recruiting and it's time to let the Stone experiment end.MetsJetsAggies wrote:Show me where I said we would be a top 3 MWC team this year? Re: NMS game
Stew has been critical of this team all year -- you just haven't been paying attention. You like this team alot more than Stew does -- expect more changes before next year. And it would be good to maybe hire a big-time recruiter for this staff. Jones getting BYU's leftovers is not going to be enough.MetsJetsAggies wrote:No voices of reason in this thread please. We will lose to Denver, La. Tech, Seattle, and Arlington on the road, with very uncertain wins against Idaho and SJST on the road. I also expect we'll lose a home game in the WAC -- at least 5 losses in the WAC and probably more would give us 4th or worse. Is that what you were "watching" MJA.
