That can only serve to make him better coming back next year. I would like to see him get more court time.
I'm a reasonable man, get off my case.

Let's hope it helps. He has been terrible this season. I'm not trying to be mean, that's just the truth. I'm to the point that I'm surprised when he catches the ball without fumbling it. His hands are worse than Greg Ostertaag's.

I know he hasn't played well or anything but to not even get off the bench on a team with 7 other guys that can even play, really 6 guys that can actually play... What the hell happened?

Yeah, it's strange. I was excited when he became eligible and that game at UVCC gave me all kinds of false hope. Part of me thinks he just needs to be given the playing time, but I'm sure Stew would be giving him time if he was effective.BigBlue32 wrote:I know he hasn't played well or anything but to not even get off the bench on a team with 7 other guys that can even play, really 6 guys that can actually play... Re: Lopez playing with Puerto Rico ntl team
One of the main reason why Lopez is locked on the bench is that he plays the only position on the team where we have very solid depth. We are 1.5 deep at every position but the 5 where we are 3 deep. I am not sure of any team who plays three centers regularly. Shaw is demanding 30-35 minutes a game with his play and Stone is ahead of him right now in effort and willing to play physical which is getting him 5-10 backup minutes at the 5 and the same backing up the 4. I think Lopez has more natural ability but has not yet decided to play physical with effort, which is what matters in this system. As stew has said before, he is convincing Lopez that he is not a finesse player. If he gets it he will be good if not... Well we got other players and he won't play.

Re: Lopez playing with Puerto Rico ntl team
Lopez is also not the kind of guy who is going to get out and run in the kinds of games we've been seeing lately. One thing about Stone, for a big guys he can really run the floor.
This is going to be the question regarding using Lopez in the future-- does the game being played suit his game. If it's slow down, deliberate, typical Stew basketball, then he can have a role. If it's run up and down the floor like we've seen more of lately, he's going to be sitting a lot. Just the way it is.

Re: Lopez playing with Puerto Rico ntl team
This is going to come off as snarky, but it really isn't intended to be. How is there an Puerto Rican national team? That makes about as much sense as "the Kansas national team!" They are a "commonwealth" of the United States, essentially as state without really being a state. Go look on the Wikipedia "Puerto Rico" page. Their president is Barack Obama (what a coincidence, he's mine, too!), their federal legislative branch is the United States Congress. When they get a passport, guess what? It's a US passport! Their currency is the US dollar. What am I missing?

I'm guessing it's because PR is a territory, not a state. Probably similar to the way that Scotland, Wales, and N. Ireland all have separate national teams for soccer.

If they really wanted to make one, it may technically be legal.... On the other hand, DC has electoral votes, so unsure.

Technically they are an "dependency," which means that, for now, they are an independent country that is dependent on the US for everything. Same for the US Virgin Islands. The Phillipines were also this way until the end of WWII.

Re: Lopez playing with Puerto Rico ntl team
I believe it's the whole reason they aren't a state. They want to do stuff like the Olympics and soccer and such as a country... Yet they want to have our moneys and vote.
But then again... With a little Googling, it looks like they are closer to it than I thought.

They don't get to vote. But they also don't pay federal income taxes, IIRC.kofdog wrote:I believe it's the whole reason they aren't a state. They want to do stuff like the Olympics and soccer and such as a country... Yet they want to have our moneys and vote.

Re: Lopez playing with Puerto Rico ntl team
I know PR voted to apply for statehood in the last election (though I don't know details), which sets up my dream scenario of having promotion-relegation battles each year to be the 50th state. We demote the worst performer (Hello, Mississippi!) and let a territory take its place.

I think we need to make it more than one since obama already thinks there are 54 states or whatever it is he said.SeattleAg wrote:I know PR voted to apply for statehood in the last election (though I don't know details), which sets up my dream scenario of having promotion-relegation battles each year to be the 50th state.
