CBS Sports ranks the bball programs in each state

Rank for the state of Utah:

BYU
Utah
Utah Valley
Utah State
Weber State
Southern Utah

Never thought I'd see our program ranked below UVU, but that's where we are. I think it's a testament to the job Pope has done, but TD really needs to kick things in gear this year.

I guess they missed us beating them in Orem last year.

Still, this is perception. I hope we can reverse that perception and get back to in-state dominance.

And the beatdown that UVU gave BYU in the Marriott Center last year as well.

I don't quite understand how CBS Sports went about formulating this list. It supposedly tells us who "owns the state", and I guess that BYU gets that crown by being associated with the predominant religion. Utah is next by fact of being in the PAC-12. From there, I don't know how CBS Sports would have any idea. I supposed that by simply beating BYU for the first time ever, Utah Valley got a lot of buzz last year, but I've got to believe that less people follow UVU basketball than USU. Am I simply wearing Aggie Blue glasses?

Either way, I hope that we perform well enough this season and in the Beehive Classic (this year and beyond) that we are clearly in the top 3 and we never get relegated to 4th in anyone's minds (ever again!)

UVU's placement on this list is their first ever victory over Utah State. Congratulations to them.

Pope is a very good coach and he has a very good staff. They have a some bigs that will challenge a lot of folks this year.

Meh, this is a contract year for Duryea. He either improves the team dramatically or he's gone. I don't think it will be as hard to find a coach as it was when Stew left because the program is down and you wouldn't be following a legend. I'm hoping for a good year but not counting on it.

I bet the Ute fans are more perturbed about this than anyone.

Lol at uvu ahead of usu and even Weber. Also pretty funny that byu is ahead of Utah. Look at recent success, players in the NBA and it is pretty obvious utah has the better program.

Maybe UVU should have been ranked #1. They are currently leading Kentucky by 9 at the half in Rupp Arena.

And........ that didn't last long. Kentucky goes on a 18-0 run to get the lead and then some.

It looks like we're 6th best in state. Good thing we're not playing UVU or SUU this year.

You shouldn't put us ahead of Weber state right now. Not just because they have beat us two years in a row, but they have had more success as a program recently. Hopefully the team will improve over the course of the season. We have a relatively tough ooc schedule this year at least compared to our normal standards. We will get plenty of chances to see if the team is making improvements.
