Predict Our MW Record
We finish our non-conference schedule with Youngstown State Wednesday. Assuming we win that, we enter conference play at 7-6.
Now that we have seen this team for almost half the season, how do we finish in MW play?
I've got 6-12 and 9th place in the conference.

Re: Predict Our MW Record
I'm going to be optimistic and predict 7-11. I also want to add that I believe it's guaranteed we don't even finish in the top 6 of the MWC.

3-15. Air Force and two wins against San Jose St. I just don't see many teams in our league that we are better than.

Re: Predict Our MW Record
While I don't think we are better than any other teams in our league, we still tend to win a game or 2 in the Spectrum against teams that we shouldn't. We beat Nevada last year. I think we'll get to at least 5 or 6 wins.

Re: Predict Our MW Record
4-5 or 3-6 at home (wins vs. AFA, SJSU, 1 against either CSU, UNM, and one surprise win against either WYO, Fresno or Reno)
2-7 or 1-8 on road (2 wins vs. AFA, SJSU or split these 2, no chance in other 7 games)
6-12 best case, 4-12 more likely, 3-13 probable worst case scenario.

Re: Predict Our MW Record
6-12 seems right. We are good enough to beat the lower echelon teams at home, but will likely struggle against everyone other than SJSU on the road. How many road games did we win last year? 1 or 2? It will probably be the same story this year.

Re: Predict Our MW Record
Perhaps my prediction that we would sweep SJS this year was premature. The Spartans just drilled Santa Clara on the road — and it wasn’t close. SDS is about to win against #13 Gonzaga, too.

Re: Predict Our MW Record
You are correct about SJS nearly throwing the game away in the 2nd half. But having a 21 point halftime lead can erase a lot of ineptitude. SJS hit 79% of its FTs but the stat of the game is that the Spartans went to the line 33 times and hit 26 of its shots. Duryea should similarly encourage his players to hit their FTs.

Re: Predict Our MW Record
Cal has also been crushed by UC Riverside, Chaminade, and Central Arkansas. They did somehow beat SDSU in San Diego though.

Re: Predict Our MW Record
We have won 20 straight games against San Jose State. And actually 26 of the last 27 games as well.
I agree with your statement.

Re: Predict Our MW Record
I was at the one we lost in Reno. Talk about a (I can't express myself without swearing) way to lose a trip to the Big Dance! It felt like getting punched in the gut when that kids three went in.

9-9, I know a lot of you will be disappointed if this happens.

Re: Predict Our MW Record
I wouldn't expect us to go 9-9. 10-8 is my expectation to be excited about Duryea coming back, but I would be surprised if that happens.

Re: Predict Our MW Record
These are the posters whose expectations for the Aggies' conference performance have already been met or exceeded:
Intermeddler - 6 wins
Hoopsnut - 5 wins
thansen - 6 wins
Quackattackaggie - 5 wins
aggies22 - 3 wins
ProvoAggie - 5 or 6 wins
aggiesdoctcom - 4 wins "likely"
utaggies - 6 wins
NVAggie - 3 wins
Aggie in Hawaii - 6 wins
mcaggie1 - 3 wins
Anyone ready to reevaluate? We do have a fairly tough 7-game stretch ahead. How many of those do we win? I'm hoping for continued phenomenal play from McEwen and Merrill to take at least 3 of them to finish at 9-9.

Re: Predict Our MW Record
We should be able to beat AFA, SJS and one other for 9 wins. That would be much better than I expected. The problem is that with a modicum of success, I get greedy and want to sneak another win or two.ChicAggie wrote: ↑February 5th, 2018, 7:54 pmThese are the posters whose expectations for the Aggies' conference performance have already been meet or exceeded:

I am pleased to have undershot our win total.
Re: Predict Our MW Record
Happy for the team that I suck at predicting the future! No doubt in my mind that this team has exceeded expectations with starters missing major minutes due to injury. I hope we all know that we underestimated this team. Hoping that they take this success into the tourney and makes some noise!

Re: Predict Our MW Record
I thought we'd go 8-10; still believe that. And for me, anything other than Top 3 in the MWC is a disappointing year. I want to see USU go to the NCAA and at worst the NIT -- it's been a long time since that's happened, and I don't see Duryea ever changing that.utaggies wrote: ↑February 5th, 2018, 9:10 pmWe should be able to beat AFA, SJS and one other for 9 wins.
