Re: UMBC...Could it happen?
Please let this happen. My least favorite professor at BYU law is a huge Virginia fan.
ESPN stats is saying it’s 92% likely to happen

Re: UMBC...Could it happen?
This would blow my brackets and final 4 bets if the upset happens. It will suck all the fun out of March madness for me.

Welp I suppose I'm going have to make some different wagers tonight. At least I witness history.

Re: UMBC...Could it happen?
Yup. When I choose my bracket I pick who I think will win but I don't actually cheer for those teams. These upsets make March Madness worth watching.trombone_ninja wrote: ↑March 16th, 2018, 9:52 pmI think this is way more fun than keeping my bracket intact

Haha this is a good reason. Which professor? I liked most of them there but there’s been a lot of turnover since I graduated in 2013.

And received all 65 first place votes as the unanimous #1 team in the most recent AP poll.

Re: UMBC...Could it happen?
There were even parallels to our football upset over BYU in 2014 with players cramping!

It was worth watching but my inner gambler is a little salty. It least it was only a few a bucks haha.ProvoAggie wrote:Yup. The guy was constantly making degrading and biting comments to his students in class. Weird thing was that he was nice 1 on 1. I guess it doesn’t help that I took Civ Pro from him.
I’m tempted to email him and ask if he watched the historic upset last night? Guy was a big enough jerk to make me think about it...
I agree though, I liked most of my professors.

Re: UMBC...Could it happen?
I confess that I (and probably most of the people in the country) had never heard about UMBC until last night. Nice to see a genuine underdog win, and win big.
Brings up a point, though, that I made in another thread. UMBC plays in the America East Conference which, like the Big East, did not exist until 1979. Those of you as old as I am will remember Marv Roberts coming to USU from Brooklyn, New York in '67. There are, as is obvious from watching the game last night, a lot of talented players in that part of the country. With all of those relatively new conferences and opportunities to play, I still have to think it will be most unlikely that any of those players will be coming to Logan. Or for that matter, anywhere else in the West, except perhaps to the PAC-12

Re: UMBC...Could it happen?
Aren't they all your least favorites? I would have thought being a douche was part of the job description at BYU.
BTW, one thing I haven't heard a single commentator mention (I'm sure it's been discussed, but I just haven't heard it) is that Virginia was already on the receiving end of perhaps the biggest upset loss of college basketball history back in 1982 when they were the No. 1 team in the country with Ralph Sampson at center and lost at NAIA Chaminade. That team was 8-0 going into the Chaminade game and had already defeated Duke on the road and Georgetown in Maryland.

Re: UMBC...Could it happen?
I haven't heard mention of Chaminade either. It's amazing to me that Virginia owns both of those losses. I really hope UMBC plays similarly well against K-State. Those EMAW folks who spent time here some seasons ago would really benefit from such a loss.
