Re: Craig Smith
Did a quick Wikipedia read on this guy. Can someone with more knowledge please explain why he would be a good fit? Not sure why he would be much better than someone like Randy? (Not saying I want or approve of Randy)

Re: Craig Smith
He has taken two programs, one D1 and one D2 and built them both from losers to consistent winners. Great communicator and recruiter. Exactly what we need right now.

Re: Craig Smith
Thanks, I feel much better. I googled his name as South Dakota HC, and it came up with his bio which said he was 68 years old. I thought something was wrong.

Re: Craig Smith
you are buying low right now with this guy simply because SDSU has a 6"10 kid who is far superior to anybody else in that league. This guy won the Summit regular season last year and took second this year. He's won every where he has been.
And, he's from North Dakota. he'll love Logan

Also, hurray for my 2,000th post! Better than my GCU thread...
Good read on Smith. I'm excited When will this deal be finalized? When the game was over, the ’Yotes made a lap around the court, high-fiving fans. Where was the coach? He’d gone up into the student section, fists raised. His tie was loose. Beads of sweat speckled his bald head. He shook hands with about half the campus.
“It’s marketing, right?” Smith said. “You gotta give them some love. They make a difference.”
He helped Miles rebuild North Dakota State, Colorado State and Nebraska. He worked his own magic at NAIA Mayville State, inheriting a one-win team and three years later playing for a national championship.

Re: Craig Smith
Great, Great hire. His team was 26-9 (11-3) this year. Beat S. Dak St by 20. Lost to 3 tournament teams in TCU, UCLA and Duke by 4,3 and 15 respectively. That's a major step up from Duryea. GET EXCITED AGGIE FANS!!!

Re: Craig Smith
I just looked at the south dakota schedule, i believe he can bring us somewhere but it will take a while. We can get craig smith if we want, he just needs to be able to coach koby and merrill to get us far. I believe if he has some tricks up his sleeve and koby and merrill like him, i think we are a mw title contender. Besides, its koby's and merrills team anyways, not the coaches. I think this team has a problem with being selfish. The problem with duryea is he told everyone to shoot three's and if any of you noticed, if we can't shoot threes during the game, we will lose. We need to run the ball more and get open layups, jumpers, and threes if necessary. We also got to get back on defense. Like nevada, they are a nba-like team. They inbound the ball and get down the court to get open layups. Nevada averaged 83 points per game and allowed 73 points per game which was very good. If we can compete against Nevada, Boise, Gonzaga(Maybe), SDSU, New mexico, we have a chance to win the mountain west. We can always compete against the good teams at home and sometimes away, but the major problems we lose games that we are supposed to win. Colorado St, San Jose, Wyoming, Nevada at home, at Boise, all of these games had something in common, we couldn't finish the games or we started out slow. I don't care what the head coach is even though lloyd or fox would of been great, and it's leaning toward craig smith now, i am just hoping for the coach to finish the games with the W. With all those wins, we should of been at least top 5 in the conference. Craig Smith hopefully will one year bring us to the top of the MW, and to the Tournament.

Craig Smith
The HJ is reporting that Goon has spoken with Barnes and Morrill assistant Tim Duryea is a leading candidate for the job.

Re: Craig Smith
I love it! He’s won everywhere he’s been. He’s been at enough of obscure places and is relatively unknown enough that he at least has potential to be a home run.
South Dakota has been really good the last two years and I agree that South Dakota state’s success could potentially be laid at their dominant big man’s feet and that in fact Craig Smith with South Dakota is the better coach.

I know a lot of people were over the Goon jokes, but I was never over them. And this posts takes it to a new level!

Any chance we give Smith like 450k and then split the rest and get Peery + Dooley as associate head coaches? Oh, plus Condie??

Re: Craig Smith
Go Hartwell i think there’s s consensus to hire Smith. He’ll have my support, we need positive energy influx back into the basketball program.
Can i please remind everyone who has forgotten what the spectrum can be?
My wife isnt a huge basketball fan like I am, but when Williams hit the second 3 she sat down and plugged her ears and started laughing. The noise was the loudest she’s ever heard in her life. She said after the game her head was ringing and she was dizzy.
Imagine beating Gonzaga, or any other future top 25 team with that kind of energy again.

Re: Craig Smith
Great hire if true. A younger guy with a little head coaching experience and a lot of upside.
