Tauriawn Knight
Knight will join USU for the 2018-2019 season.
PG out of Edmond Santa Fe High School. 6'1". Top 5 prep ball player in Oklahoma.
Averaged 19.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists as a senior.
Looks to be a decent signing in a spot we desperately need.

This is the kid who originally committed to South Dakota, but switched and is now coming to USU.
Had other offers Arkansas Forth Smith, Charleston Southern, and Missouri Southern.
Before we get too skeptical just remember South Dakota was a team ranked 47 spots higher than us last year.

Re: Tauriawn Knight
At this point, it's nice to see us land a somewhat decent HS kid at the PG spot. If Smith is as good at player development as has been advertised, Knight may end up being a serviceable guard for us moving forward. It's just good to see some action on the recruiting front.swishh_15 wrote: ↑April 17th, 2018, 1:49 pmThis is the kid who originally committed to South Dakota, but switched and is now coming to USU.

I'll take it. We aren't going to be landing elite prospects in this class with the coaching change. If we get serviceable productive players from this class it is a plus.

Re: Tauriawn Knight
That's how I see it. We have a kid with some potential coming in. From what I can see, he probably isn't going to make an impact this next season. That being said, I don't think his signing will be a "wasted spot."Aggie in Hawaii wrote: ↑April 17th, 2018, 1:54 pmI'll take it. Good hell! Look at our guard lineup on the roster...we need some help outside of Sam. Who do you want to run the point next year? Ainge? Have some confidence in the process, this commitment and others to come. I expect more to come shortly including a seasoned/experienced point guard. Yes, there will be some bigs too.flying_scotsman2.0 wrote: ↑April 17th, 2018, 1:46 pmStrike 4. New coach, same story. Another combo guard.

Re: Tauriawn Knight
Disagree. Right now he'll be the starter next year over Ainge and Porter. Perhaps we'll bring in a JC PG, but either way he'll play real minutes next year. Being the Top PG in the State of Oklahoma is very good.Socrates2121 wrote: ↑April 17th, 2018, 1:57 pmThat's how I see it. We have a kid with some potential coming in. Re: Tauriawn Knight
I'm sure Ainge won't be back next year. I'm sure we're not done recruiting PG's. I still expect us to sign an upper classman transfer of some sort to play the point for us next year. You had a need for both with Koby leaving and Ainge not working out.IdAggie wrote: ↑April 17th, 2018, 1:58 pmGood hell! Look at our guard lineup on the roster...we need some help outside of Sam. I like this signing. I think he has potential and will develop with this staff. And he's not a late period signing because he was already committed to Smith at USD, so that's a big plus.

Re: Tauriawn Knight
Why does Smith get a pass? We need bigs and we need them yesterday. Duryea's first recruit was Rector, a 6' PG. There are too many similarities to be ignored. At least Tim had a semi-full head of hair. What does Smith have?IdAggie wrote: ↑April 17th, 2018, 1:58 pmGood hell! Look at our guard lineup on the roster...we need some help outside of Sam. Re: Tauriawn Knight
He does not get a pass, but he also needs more than two weeks to get things done and bring the pieces of the puzzle together. It is not like he has a full recruiting season to do it. It is picking up needed pieces of the puzzle that will fit where and when you can. I can guarantee you that he is chasing "bigs" and is doing it much more aggressively than Tim and his staff ever did. I don't think that any coach has ultimately been judged by there first signing (especially if it is in a position that has a giant hole). I also do not know of any coach who's ultimate success or failure was determined by their first commit. Trust the process! A good process usually takes more than two weeks to play out.flying_scotsman2.0 wrote: ↑April 17th, 2018, 2:12 pmWhy does Smith get a pass? We need bigs and we need them yesterday. By the way I would take Rector over any point guard we have on the roster right now.

I'm actually thrilled with this signing, Smith's hire, and everything else in life at the moment. I'm just trolling. I plead forgiveness from IdAggie and anybody lacking in the hair department who I may have offended.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

You guys are sure impatient. Myself, I think it is going to take until the 2nd year he is here to see some real results. This kid is a good start.

Re: Tauriawn Knight
Oklahoma does have very good high school sports which is encouraging. Hope he turns out great and should definitely be an upgrade over some current players. That being said, bringing in someone whose other offers were from Arkansas Forth Smith, Charleston Southern, and Missouri Southern would have created outrage from some who are applauding this signing. Good to see folks giving the benefit of the doubt.

Tauriawn Knight
Does South Dakota have any cheerleaders or ushers that we could sign? We have their head coach, two assistants, and their high school point guard.
Do they have anyone 6'8" or taller we could bring over?

Re: Tauriawn Knight
At South Dakota Smith was able to identify players with an upside and help them improve each year. He must feel that he can do that with Knight, who may surprise as a freshman, but probably won't. So it's likely wait and see for a year with him. Maybe a rs year also.

Is stealing Summit League recruits the best we can do at this point?
Probably.
I’d be really surprised if we don’t also sign the Griesel kid that asked for his release from USD. Seems to be all in on Smith.

I like his quickness and hops. I think his athleticism will fit in well with Smith's system. I can see why he re-recruited this guy to follow him here.
