Hoopfest

Post by Murkymerk » June 30th, 2018, 8:55 am

With Hoopfest going on this weekend, I got to thinking; if you could make a team of 4 Aggies (former or current) to play in a 3 on 3 tournament, who would you pick? I’m thinking guys who could reasonably play this year, you know, not old guys like Marv Roberts or Cornell Green.
My team would be:
Koby McEwen
Jaycee Carroll
Tai Wesley
Brian Green

So.....you want to eliminate all of the great players, and just go with the good ones. I guess that's fair if that's what you want. I would prefer a much better team.

I think he is saying that the idea is who could step on the court in 2018 to compete (without a time machine). That would naturally eliminate the guys who are 70 years old.

I know exactly what he is saying. Most of you don’t want to talk about the past, because you didn’t see these great players play. I get that, and understand that. Some of us older guys just want to keep some of the past alive, because a lot of it was the best we have ever seen. We want you to at least be aware, that’s all.

Haven’t seen Newbold on anyone’s list. I really don’t know his current physical status, but that guy was a defensive monster and can distribute, which in 3-ball can be helpful

I chose Pooh over Newbold. I'd take Quayle over Cardell because of age. I overlooked Jared. Newbold would be my next man up, but I'd like a little more athleticism in 3 on 3 than what Newbold could bring.

Maybe you should scroll up and read through those lists again. He's also no slouch in shooting the ball.

I’m too tired today to do so, but I’ll take your word for it that I missed some mentions of Newbold - my apologies. I always liked his game and you’re right an excellent shooter. I would disagree with the poster that said Quayle is a more athletic pick, but we all have our preferences

1- Jaycee Carroll
2- Tai Wesley
3- Pooh Williams
4- Brian Green
The perfect mix of size, grit, athleticism to neutralize the best opponent, deadly shooters required to dominate a 3 on 3 tournament and all still in good shape or young enough to reasonably be expected to be in good playing shape.
