Wow!! What a win 89-65

Post by SLB » December 1st, 2018, 9:58 pm

Merrill was out for a period of the game because of fouls.
UCI is a good team.
Queta - 19 rebounds and 7 of them were offensive rebounds.
Taylor - 21 points wow
Merrill still got 17 points.
Never lost the lead
Out rebounded them by 14.
JK 3 needs to improve on FTs to finish his drives.

The Aggies haven’t trailed since the end of the Arizona State game before Thanksgiving.

Got the better of the two former Colorado St assistants. CSU hired the other one. Glad we got Smith

Irvine was considered a pretty decent team, too. We need to somehow get the Spectrum on Wheels in the Marriott Center on Wednesday night, so we can help kick BYU's arse!

This team had talent some talent last year, too. But its amazing what happens with addition by subtraction. Positive attitudes mean a lot these days!

I am so impressed with what Smith and the team have done thus far. I still expect reality to set in and see that we are a decent team, but will likely loss quite a few. I feel like we have over performed so far. I am so glad we made a change with the coach. It seems like those critics that were so certain firing Duryea would result in the program completely tanking (which IMO is what had already happened) have been silent - crickets. I’m waiting for a couple of losses for them to come back out and tell us all how horrible we are for supporting the change.

Let me rephrase, since this is pretty much last year’s team. We don’t win with a different coaching staff.

I don’t know if anybody else noticed, but it appeared Queta was told not to go after blocks to help him stay out of foul trouble. It worked. Great call coach. Keep him in the game, there are so many more positives with him in the game than getting a few blocks. He still frightens the other team just by being there with hands straight up. He’s intimidating. Getting 19 rebounds though is extremely advantageous for your team!

St. Mary's just beat Cal.
St. Mary's narrowly lost to Miss St.
UCI did beat Texas A&M.
UCI has only lost 2 games.

A&M is 2-4, albeit with a tough schedule. St Mary's lost at home to Harvard right before the Irvine game too

This is all so much more fun to talk about than an entire staff leaving, hiring Vic Koening, and going to a s*** bowl.

Bless you, Craig Smith and staff!

Other than the final score, this is my favorite stat of the night: "as late as the 7:22 mark in the second half, Queta had more rebounds than the entire UC Irvine team."

The year we beat Irvine by 16 they were 4 and 4 8 games in to the season, so no, not really the same conditions. We beat them by 16 in the first game of the season. Last year we beat them at home by 3 when they were 4 and 7. You are right hipster.

It's virtually the same roster. I can sit here and say Merrill, Taylor, Brown, Brito, etc. are all so much better this year than it made the same difference as their guys being 1-2 years older.

The point is people are saying LAST years team/coach wouldn't have won. They beat Irvine last year, they beat Irvine the year before at their place by 16. Check out their roster, it's almost identical even if they are a better team now...so are we?

Stupid discussion is stupid.

UC Irvine won the Big West 2 years ago...and went to the NIT, something we haven't done in ages. But no, they're so much better this year after beating a 2-4 Tex AM team and a St Marys team we blew out by 17. You guys are right

Holy s***!! Let's argue and b**** about which Aggie team would have beaten this year's UCI team. This year's Aggies are 7-1 and were competitive in their only loss (ASU). Good stuff! Expecting them to continue to improve!
