They're called Won, as in "I can't believe we only won 6 games."

I’ll give it a shot. FYI, the MWC plays an unbalanced schedule, meaning there are 11 teams but each team only plays one game with two different opponents. This year we only play one game against BSU (away) and UNLV (home). We,ll lose a game on the road we should have won (NM) and a game at home as well (FSU).

@Nev - L
AFA - W
FSU - L
@ Wyo - W
@SJS - W
CSU - W
@NM - L
SJS - W
UNLV - W
@FSU - L
@SDS - L
Wyo - W
@AFA - W
NM -W
@BSU -L
SDS - W
Nev -L
@CSU - W

Overall record: 22-11
Conference record: 11-7 (home: 7-2, away: 4-5)
MWC tournament : 1-1 (earn #4 seed; first round bye; beat NM in the 2nd round; lose to Nevada in the semi-finals)
Post-season tourney: CBI

14-4. Two losses to NEV, road losses at SDSU and Fresno.

Maybe wishful thinking, I know.

This would put us at only 7 losses, and I think it’d put us in the tourney as well.

With all of the hoopla about this team, 25 to 55 people participating in guess the score contests, much discussion on Bracketology, NET, and seeding only to have five stinkin’ people post on Bob’s thread on how we’ll do during the conference portion of the season? :shock:

You and I usually are on the same side of these discussions, but what’s the purpose of projecting a season-long record game by game. I think we will finish in the top five (better than I expected) which means about 11 - 7. There will be wins that are good and losses that are bad, but specific games at this point is really a waste of time.

That’s fine. It just struck me as odd that when a similar question was raised on the football board about what our record in football will be next year it attracted 47 responses. But when the same question is raised about b-ball there is little interest.

As to wastes of time, isn’t that generally what message boards are for? It’s not like we’re solving the problem of world hunger here.

This team is much less likely to lose games that they should win than prior years’ teams. I see 11-5 or 12-6.

While Sand Machine's Conference record was a good effort, I think Porch and Space is their best.

Haha no problem.

I actually typed out 13-5 then deleted it and went with 12-6 so maybe this is a sign I should be more bullish on this team

I think being a bit bullish is an excellent idea.

On topic:

I didn't expect to see what we have. Smarter people may have, but I am not basketball smart. The unqualified sense tells me we'll do reasonably well and take 3rd at best or 4th very likely

After today’s games, does anyone want to reconsider their predictions? USU has no business losing more than four games, especially with Fresno State and SDSU losing at home to UVU and Brown today. I thought those would be two of maybe five conference losses for the Aggies, but now I’m questioning that idea.

Talk about the "Lost weekend" for the MWC! Dogie has a point. I'll up the ante to 13-5, thinking 14-4 very possible.

I am similarly persuaded. But it is very hard for me to think that we will win 14 games (three more than our best season in the MWC) with a team that on paper looks no better than our tied for 7th/8th team from last year. But I’ll kick it up with one more win by now predicting that we don’t lose to Fresno St. at home. 12-6

21 win seasons have been mighty rare the last few years.

You keep using that word. I do not think that word means what you think it means.

In my opinion we need to be at least 14-4 in conference to have a chance at an at large bid, given how bad the conference has been.

A 13-5 record would push us out I think.

Even at 14-4 we will not get an at-large bid. There will be no marque wins assuming we don’t beat Nevada. Unless we win the conference tournament, our best case is NIT

It’s a weak bubble with the expanded field now though. A 26-8 record for USU I think would get an at large.

And it's a very biased pro P6 (counting the Big East) in selection. There will be very few at-large bids going to non-P6 schools and I believe the WCC teams will get more consideration than MWC teams will get. I expect that the average MWC conference teams will simply beat each other. Nevada will stand out and no one else.

14-4 almost surely gets us in. Our Net rating would be top 40, 26 wins, hopefully one over Nevada somewhere along the line but even if not it should still be enough.

Pac-12 is a 1, maybe 2 bid max league this year which helps the cause as well.

My recollection is that as far as the NCAA tourney is concerned we have a record of 9-3. The Eastern Oregon (NAIA) game doesn’t count. Going 14-4 in the conference would put us at 23-7. With a 14-4 conference record we would get a bye into the quarterfinals as either a #2 or #3 seed. Going 3-0 in the MWC tourney, and thereby finishing 26-7 would mean we would have won the tourney and received an automatic bid. So I agree, if we finish at 26-7 we are certainly in. ;)

But I’ll also agree that a 25-8 D1 record, meaning we at least get to the MWC tourney championship game, AND playing Nevada relatively close in three losses, would likely get us an at-large berth — provided none of the losses were to bottom-feeding teams. Having that same record with any of the wins being against Nevada would seal it and probably get us a #8 through #10 seed.

There are a lot of “ifs” to us getting to the NCAA tourney.
