Went to the CSI vs Indian Hills CC game tonight
CSI is currently ranked #13 and Indian Hills was #15 coming in. For point of reference there are 221 Div 1 Juco teams.
Looked like Eric Peterson was there scouting or at least a doppelganger. I hope we're looking at Malik Porter for CSI. He's only 6'5", but athletic and tough as can be. Very versatile and can guard anyone on the court so he switches on screens. Has great touch around the basket and good handles for a big. Quick to the rim. Excellent defender and even better rebounder. He's relentless on the boards. In their biggest game to date he led CSI in 4 categores with 19 pts, 19 rbs, 3 Asts, and 5 blks. Seems like a perfect fit for Smith's GATA style. He's averaging 11 pts and 9 rbs a game in just 21 minutes per game. CSI is loaded as usual and so in their typical fashion they go 10 players deep or more in the rotation. I expect Malik's minutes to increase as region play begins next week. Having watched both Grootfaam and Porter, I would choose Porter.
I wasn't overly impressed with anyone on Indian Hills. Had a scrappy PG, but he ran his mouth a lot and had poor shot selection despite scoring a lot.
CSI has a player Khalid Thomas who is 6'9" and committed to Texas Tech. He's a long versatile wing, but is coming off of injury and so far hasn't shown me anything to validate a P5 offer. They also got a freshman big in Brayden Parker from Preston Idaho who is 6'8" and every bit of 240lbs. He's like a Bendall style, who loves to bang, defend, and rebound and has good range. He's committed to Idaho State I hear.

Thanks for the run down! I'll see if I can find out if it was indeed Eric Peterson at the game.hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑December 29th, 2018, 11:15 pmCSI is currently ranked #13 and Indian Hills was #15 coming in. For point of reference there are 221 Div 1 Juco teams.

Thanks for that.
He doesn't shoot the 3 at all, so since he's 6'5" that'll obviously limit his options in D1, but he's a great athlete with other skills. He dominated that game, and Indian Hills has a number of past and future D1 players on their roster. Anytime a player can do that he's worth at least a look, probably more. I like players like him.

He has a nice stroke from the FT line. I’m sure with some work he could be at least a threat from outside.Donald_Sullivan wrote: ↑December 30th, 2018, 12:42 pmThanks for that.

Re: Went to the CSI vs Indian Hills CC game tonight
He will need an outside shot at that size. I remember when byu signed the NJCAA POY (Avrian Parrish perhaps) and they were ecstatic about the signing. He was a 6'4" forward who had no outside shot. He quit the team at the Christmas break to transfer to Alaska-Anchorage. His skill set didn't transfer to DI basketball.
To his credit, Porter rebounds and plays defense (which Parrish did not show commitment to) so it is true that there is more to work with in this case.

Sorry, Eric was the coach there. Malik Porter is the player in question.SectionBAggie wrote: ↑December 30th, 2018, 10:08 pmHe will need an outside shot at that size. BTW, he would not be the first Eric P. on the Aggies, but the other one spelled it Peterson.

I like Porter. I don't care if he never takes or makes a 3 and I don't care if he's only 6'5". I don't need every player to be an offensive star.

Why did Brayden Parker need to go the JuCo route? Anyone know the story?
Re: Went to the CSI vs Indian Hills CC game tonight
Needed a better ACT score for ISU. Good player works really hard. Porter is a freak athlete but not sure how that will translate against taller competition. He had a block that was one of the best I have ever seen.

Re: Went to the CSI vs Indian Hills CC game tonight
It seems that every year there's one scholarship (sometimes more - but I hope those days are over) that goes to a player with risks. Sometimes those risks are an injury situation, or maybe the player is too short, or not that athletic, or raw, etc. Of all the risks that are considered for scholarships, I would take a risk on a guy who is a freak athlete, tough as nails, defends like he's one of the 300 Spartans at the Battle of Thermopylae, but a bit short. Risks like that are okay by me.
