We just can’t win a big game to save our lives. How many of these momentum swing games have we lost in the Spectrum in the last half decade.... sooooo frustrating.
It’s like we don’t want Spectrum magic to return.
I’m dead inside.

It’s like clockwork—anytime there’s excitement something like this happens. I doubt they come back in force like they did tonight.MetsJetsAggies wrote: ↑January 9th, 2019, 9:02 pmHaven't been this deflated in a while. Student section was great, hope they come back
Should have fouled Huggins on the last position before he could shoot.

Re: F&$@ Huggins
Huggins sure had more space to shoot his 3’s than Sam did. Seems like we can’t get him open. All another team has to do is focus 2 guys on Sam. You would think we could run plays that could get him open.

Re: F&$@ Huggins
Huggins was amazing but Aggie free throw shooting was horrendous. Porter goes 2-4 down the stretch Queta goes 1-2 right before Huggins hits the go ahead 3. Every time the Aggies has a chance to break the game open they missed a free throw. Well into the 2nd half they were shooting below 50% from FT
Re: F&$@ Huggins
I was yelling for us to foul him as soon as they got the ball back with us only up by two. With how lights out their whole team was shooting from three that second half, especially Huggins, I don’t get why we didn’t put them at the line. Make them shoot one and one to tie us at best, with us getting the ball back.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑January 9th, 2019, 9:04 pmIt’s like clockwork—anytime there’s excitement something like this happens. We went 1-9 on 3s in the 2nd half.
We were 1 3 from winning in this game.
Huggins looked like Curry tonight.

I don't think you foul up two. Up three and you absolutely foul.

Re: F&$@ Huggins
Normally, I agree with you. But with how lights out they were shooting that second half, I think fouling would have been the smart move. That, or you at least have to find a way to keep the ball out of Huggins’ hands. There was no way he was missing, not the way he was shooting.

Re: F&$@ Huggins
I agree, you don't foul up 2. That's playing to not lose rather than playing to win. I think you've got to rely on your defense in that situation. It wasn't like he had a wide-open easy three. He was pretty deep with the hand in his face. Just a great shot and an incredible shooting night.

Fair points. I may be overreacting in hindsight, which is 20/20 after all.AggieBlueMint wrote: ↑January 9th, 2019, 10:11 pmI agree, you don't foul up 2. Had almost forgotten about that. I was at a (the?) sports bar in Blaine WA with a buddy hoping to watch USU extend their win streak (2002?), when Mr. Green ruined my evening. Zot... Zot...

Re: F&$@ Huggins
Was front row at that game. Felt very reminiscent
Also, students showed up but it was obvious none of them had been taught by the old spectrum fans. Smith had to help them along to get pumped up most of the plays down the stretch.

Re: F&$@ Huggins
I wouldn't have fouled either, but one other piece of information to consider is that fouling would have given them a 1-and-1 chance. Not even two free throws.
Regardless, Huggins was on fire and made a tough three. I didn't think the defense was bad. The offense was just better.

Re: F&$@ Huggins
There are times a player is on and is in the zone. Huggins was that last night. I though a lot of his threes were fairly contested including the last one. He was well behind the 3 and Merrill had his hand up. Sometimes you have to tip your hat to the other team. Give credit to Fresno for not giving up. We had many chances to extend the lead and not make it a 2 point game in the final minute. I hope the team is not deflated as i still think we can have a good conference year. Smith does have his work cut out to get some higher caliber players in the program. Outside of Merrill and Queta we have some good role players, but we need a consistent PG and 3 man and I think we could be dangerous.

Re: F&$@ Huggins
Originally when live i wanted a foul but after more thought its prob the right thing not to foul. I will say they shot 50 percent from the free throw line and 50 percent from 3. Even if they by chance make both we have the ball with the last position at worst tied and in double bonus.treesap32 wrote: ↑January 10th, 2019, 7:37 amI wouldn't have fouled either, but one other piece of information to consider is that fouling would have given them a 1-and-1 chance. However if you do foul and end up losing in OT we'd be calling for smith to be fired. Or some would at least.

Re: F&$@ Huggins
I'm more pissed at the flagrant foul call. He was in front of the Fresno player and hit the ball.

Re: F&$@ Huggins
The flagrant was awful. There were 3-4 other ticky-tack fouls where replays showed that maybe a jersey was brushed. Also, Porter drew two offensive fouls in a row, and they called them both defensive. There was a missed "and-one" call earlier in the game as well that would have netted the Ags at least one more point. Two three-pointers for the Ags that were half-way down and rimmed out while Fresno had one bounce off the rim, high off the glass, then back down through.
All in all, while the Ags are saddled with the loss, one call here, a bounce there and the Ags win this one. There is absolutely an element of luck in close games, and Lady Luck did not favor the Ags tonight. I came away extremely disappointed, but simultaneously heartened. On a night when the opposition goes CRAZY from beyond the arc in a probably non-repeatable shooting exhibition, the Ags still were in a position to win. I was also heartened by the play of Porter. His best game in an Aggie jersey. Some calls went against him and he missed three crucial FTs, but his overall play was solid.

[That was a bogus call. Refs very rarely make that call. He was not completely in front of the defender, but was on his side and was making a legitimate play on the ball. The foul was not a hard foul, but just a good foul to prevent a layup. Ref should be ashamed for that call.]

Re: F&$@ Huggins
Maybe I was at a bad angle, but it looked to me that after Taylor tipped the ball just before the final buzzer it was clearly in the cylinder when the Fresno guy got up and swatted it. Seemed like a clear goaltend to me but I may be grossly mistaken. Anyone have a better view or a replay?

Re: F&$@ Huggins
I didn't think so watching it live, but I was curious about what you saw, so I just went back and looked at available replay on Stadium app. Taylor's tip at the buzzer bounded off the glass and away from the cylinder. It was definitely outside the cylinder and moving away from the cylinder when the Fresno player grabbed it.tysteve20 wrote: ↑January 10th, 2019, 9:00 amMaybe I was at a bad angle, but it looked to me that after Taylor tipped the ball just before the final buzzer it was clearly in the cylinder when the Fresno guy got up and swatted it. I was just behind the backboard and to the left. Must have been a bad angle. I should apologize to the people around me for the screaming and yelling at the end of regulation than huh....ChicAggie wrote:I didn't think so watching it live, but I was curious about what you saw, so I just went back and looked at available replay on Stadium app. Taylor's tip at the buzzer bounded off the glass and away from the cylinder. Re: F&$@ Huggins
I know Sam was guarding Huggins on the last play. Could someone evaluate how many points our scholarship players gave up on defense last night? That seems like a great use of time and would be very beneficial for discussion on this board.

Re: F&$@ Huggins
Happy to do that for you, but you'll have to be a family member of a scholarship player and then tell me I can't do that
Re: F&$@ Huggins
No one told you to do that, why are you so hung up on that. Even if family members did, why would you give them the time of day or attention? If you feel your analysis was right why do you care what other people say?USUBlue wrote:Happy to do that for you, but you'll have to be a family member of a scholarship player and then tell me I can't do that
