Re: The shot
Kudos to Sam for giving up the rock. Most alpha big shots would have tried to force up a bad shot. Also wondering what the Lobo defender was doing when he left Abel to cover the ghost shooter in the corner.

Re: The shot
That was a huge win. There are no easy road wins. Winning didn’t catapult us into the NCAA or NIT but losing could have catapulted us out.
Let’s take care of business at home against UNLV and SJS and then get a couple of more on the road at FSU and SDS.

Re: The shot
That was quite the cold blooded 3! Nice win. This New Mexico team is not having the most stellar year, but it's still difficult to win at the Pit just asked Nevada. All good teams are going to have these kind of games where are you're going to have to grind out victories in the end. Nice win Aggies.

Re: The shot
That play before, Porter had a wide open 3 of the inbounds play but didn’t want to take it. He passed it to Sam with a guy on him with 5 on the shot clock, putting Sam in a tough situation. Porter should have shot it instead of passing. Glad he took this last shot instead of passing it off.dirtnsnow wrote:This happened a couple of plays earlier. Re: The shot
It looked like he fumbled it just a bit on that previous play which threw off his timing so he passed it to Sam. I don’t fault him for that.

That could have been. I don’t fault Sam for taking the shot he was forced into taking either.bluegrouse wrote:It looked like he fumbled it just a bit on that previous play which threw off his timing so he passed it to Sam. I don’t fault him for that.

Re: The shot
Love the unselfish on this team. Queta doesn’t hang his head about being passed up on the puck and roll, instead he’s dancing more than anyone after it went in. Also Ainge is leading the charge out for Porter’s hero’s welcome despite being relegated to the bench in favor of Porter.

Re: The shot
That was not an easy shot. Listening on the radio it sounded more like a catch and shoot. Smith said Porter is a better shooter then you would think. We need his shooting. If Brock & Brito can continue to shoot it well from 3 we will be a tough out.

Re: The shot
Also interesting that Coach Smith said Queta messed up the play by setting the screen on the wrong side of Sam’s defender so Sam ended up in traffic. Glad it worked out though!

Re: The shot
Anyone else think it was a dumb decision to run down the whole clock and play for the last shot down 1 though? We could have missed and gotten an offensive rebound or had time to foul them. Granted if we take the lead and give them too much time left it could've been bad but I always think you gotta just go quick when losing.
Also the bench excitement was great to see

Re: The shot
Definitely a risk. We either score very quickly so there’s sometime between the shot clock and the game clock or we hold and kill the clock and hope we make it. With Queta in there I wouldn’t be against scoring quickly and then banking on the defense. But, in the second half, they were shooting well so I guess coach would rather we have the ball then give them a chance to win it. Always a gamble.MetsJetsAggies wrote:Anyone else think it was a dumb decision to run down the whole clock and play for the last shot down 1 though? Re: The shot
I’m guessing we wanted to shoot with 5ish seconds left but no one was open so we took the shot when it came. I doubt we drew it up to shoot with 1.8 left...MetsJetsAggies wrote: ↑January 26th, 2019, 6:27 pmAnyone else think it was a dumb decision to run down the whole clock and play for the last shot down 1 though? Re: The shot
That's actually the play I was thinking of, I had it backwards. I'm glad he passed instead of forcing something.scotlandog wrote: ↑January 26th, 2019, 5:02 pmThat play before, Porter had a wide open 3 of the inbounds play but didn’t want to take it. Tough decision, but I guess that’s why he gets paid the big bucks.

Re: The shot
Even 5 seconds is risky. You're losing, go as quick as possible for a good shot so you have ample time to foul/get the ball back. Obviously you want a good shot but when you're losing by 1-2 you should leave more room to have a 2nd shot at it should you miss IMO
Worked out well though ha

Re: The shot
We were on the road, I was fine with running the clock down. I would have liked to see Merrill hit Questa on his roll to the basket for a higher percentage shot. That play is there 2-3 times per game for Queta.MetsJetsAggies wrote:Even 5 seconds is risky. You're losing, go as quick as possible for a good shot so you have ample time to foul/get the ball back. Re: The shot
Smith said in the postgame that he thought about both options but felt like in this game and the way NM played in the second half that the team with the ball last was going to win the game so he decided to run down the clock. They ran a play for Merrill but Queta set the screen on the wrong side. Sam made a great pass out of the double team and Porter did the rest.MetsJetsAggies wrote: ↑January 27th, 2019, 2:41 amEven 5 seconds is risky. Watching the replay, had the play worked and Merrill had been open off the screen, he would have shot it with around 5 or 6 seconds left leaving enough time for a rebound put back if he missed but not a ton of time for them if it goes in. Didn’t go exactly as planned but players make plays and Sam made a great pass and then Porter put it home.

Re: The shot
All day the lobos had purposely been leaving him open. Glad he hit that one. In the future he needs to take his open shots.AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑January 26th, 2019, 4:20 pmKudos to Sam for giving up the rock. Most alpha big shots would have tried to force up a bad shot.
