Menzies looked lost today. His post-game comments don’t exactly instill confidence going forward either if you’re a Rebels fan.....

I also liked the preview article prior to the game.

"One bid conference"
This is false. MWC is 1- 3 bid conference depending how things go.

He said you never win in this conference when you give up 82. I guess he missed when air Force gave up 88 but won by 18....vs UNLV

Right now the MWC is a one-bid conference. Nevada is in regardless. It’s possible that USU gets in but we must finish 2nd place alone (that means it’s critical to beat FSU this week) and win a couple of games in the conference tourney. The only conceivable way the MWC gets three teams to the dance is if an also-ran wins the conference tourney coupled with USU running the table thereby tying Nevada for the regular season crown. Independently those are unlikely events. Collectively they are very, very long shots.

Menzies seat is definitely getting hot...

Don’t know what to make of the Pitino rumors but he would fit that place like a glove. Tarkanian 2.

Menzies lacked the fire he used to have at NMSU.

Speaking of Menzies at NMSU, who remembers the Reggie Theus days? He and the Spectrum had a great relationship.

I'm afraid utaggies is right. Seems that the most likely scenarios are one bid (65%), two bids (31%), then three bids (4%).

BTW, I just pulled those numbers right out of an unmentionable place, so if they smell a little funny, that should explain it.

I suspect if Menzies ever posed for Playgirl or suggested UNLV "step on their necks," he might have an equally great relationship with the Spectrum.

I did a little statistical digging on our chances for an NCAA invite. TeamRankings has some interesting stuff.

https://www.teamrankings.com/ncaa-baske ... acketology

It gives us a 24% chance of making the tourney — second-best of all other MWC teams. Bit only a 13% chance of receiving an at-large bid. To have a better than even chance we need to win 26 games. We are currently at 17-5, meaning we need to pick up a 9 wins the rest of the way. We have 9 regular-season games remaining, meaning we need to win at least 7 of them and get two wins in the conference tourney. Assuming we lose to Nevada at home we then cannot afford to lose more than one other game outside of the conference championship game to Nevada. IMO that one other loss cannot be to Fresno St. this week.

The projection is for the MWC to get 1.5 NCAA bids — meaning we are equally close to being a 1-bid as opposed to a 2-bid conference. IMO that is solely based on Nevada not being a lock to win the conference tourney rather than a team other than Nevada receiving an at-large bid

We are favored in 7 of our remaining 9 games. We are “dogs” against Nevada and Fresno St. and a slight favorite against SDS. This week will not seal an NCAA bid if we win both games but it would eliminate us from all consideration if we lose both. A split would only be slightly less damaging as two losses.

Fresno game is virtually a must win if we want to get an at large, it may be a bigger game than the Reno one at the end of the year although that too would be a huge resume boost. It just looks bad to lose to another team twice that is also sorta kinda on the bubble (not really though because they have no quality wins except against us and their Net rating is like 75)

That isn’t what the article said. It said that the MWC “very well could be a one-bid bid conference” and that the second place team might have a chance. That seems to be a completely valid assessment.

I would bet anyone the MW will be a one bid league if Nevada wins the MW tourney. It has a zero percent chance of being a 3 bid league.

Menzies is probably done after this year. His 3 years there have been pretty bad and in year 3 they are going backwards.

The MW is a 1 bid conference unless

A) Nevada loses in the conference tournament
-or-
B) A remarkably high percentage of conference favorites all win their respective conference tournaments.

In either scenario, the MW is a 2 bid league at most.

Pitino was being courted a few years back. At the time I didn't think there was any chance he would come to Vegas. Now that his circumstances have changed if unlv offered I bet he would come running.

Is there a way for me to "dislike" this post?

Please, no. If Pitino shows up at UNLV, I'm afraid he will turn into Tark 2 with 2-3 lottery picks every year and a perennial taint on the program.

I don't know why anyone would touch Pitino with a 10-foot pole? Hiring him would reek of desperation.

Hey I'm not saying I would want him at unlv. I also don't think he will get an offer but no way would he turn it down if they did.

Not saying I disagree with or dislike you, nor did I intend to suggest that you might want to see Pitino at UNLV. Just that I dislike the idea of Pitino at UNLV. That is all.

Yeah at this point pitino should probably just fade away.

Some desperate lower level school will give him yet another shot.
