Still no MWC player of the week

Post by dogie » February 25th, 2019, 10:27 am

USU could win the conference basketball championship, and no Aggie has been named MWC player of the week. This week they gave it to a SDSU player who averaged 14.5 points per game. It should have gone to either Merrill or Queta.

I’m commenting on the MWC Instagram post just so they know they can’t get away with this as long as I have anything to do with it!

I encourage others to do the same.

Conversely, I thought it was interesting that Love won the Player of Week honors 4 or so times, and yet wasn't even 1st team All-MWC in football.

I honestly don't see how Sam hasn't been selected this year.

Or Woodward who had one of the all-time great LB seasons of all time and didn’t receive the accolades he deserved.

Sam or Quetta should have had it multiple times. Hopefully by the end of the year and if smith doesn’t get coach of the year it should be a crime.

Yes, but have you seen what Musselman has done? He's had Nevada in the top 25 all year.

No joke huh! Right where they were picked and double where they started the year.

Musselman has done a great job of keeping his team focused and on course but which is the bigger feat? Coaching a team full of NBA players to exactly where they were predicted to be OR coaching a team of nobodies that was supposed to finish 9th to a 2nd place finish and the brink of an at-large bid.

I only said 2nd place because I wasn't sure if we could win a tie breaker with Nevada.

No doubt. No knock on Nevada but coach of the year this year should be given to the team that literally rose from the bottom to the top. Now we here!! Let’s go aggies beat SDSU!!!

The MWC just doesn’t get as excited about our stellar year as we do. Every week I check to see if Sam or Queta got player of the week, only to see it was another Nevada, San Diego State, or Fresno guy. Even Abel’s game-winning three against New Mexico couldn’t win that week’s “3 of the week.” I have this feeling that Sam (MWC first-team), Queta (freshman/newcomer/defensive player of the year, pick one) and Smith (coach of the year) all won’t get the respect they deserve from the conference at the end of year.

Look no further than the incredible amount of post-season snubs that our football team suffered after a dominant year. Our hoops team will suffer the same fate. The Mountain West Conference hates Utah State.

It's largely because we don't win with talent; we win with smoke and mirrors. Both Smoke and Mirrors should be given player of the week honors as well as First Team All MWC.
