Tiebreakers

Post by Intermeddler » February 26th, 2019, 10:00 pm

Sorry if already discussed but if we beat Nevada and both end up 15-3, who goes into the tournament as the 1 seed?

Head to head. Then the best record against the next ranked team.

Right, but he asked if we both ended with 3 losses.

I think Nevada wins the tie breaker for sweeping Fresno.

No, it's competition against the highest ranked team. Unless things go crazy that could still be Fresno.

I think we win the tie breaker by sweeping NM whereas Nevada split with the Lobos.
Nah, Bob -- NV wins the tiebreaker by sweeping SDSU (seeded higher than UNM) whereas we split with the Aztecs. If they're tied with us at 15-3, that means we beat them and they beat SDSU.

The Wolf Pack still has a tough row to hoe: UNLV tomorrow night, at USU, at Air Force who has been coming on strong, SDSU at home.

Nobody here knows anything.

What if we win our next two games, but lose in the championship game of the MW tourney against someone other than Nevada? Would the MW get 3 teams in the Dance?

So exciting to be able to have these conversations and meaningful games at the end of the season.

P. S. Very impressed seeing someone use the correct phrase.

Growing up in Cache Valley (where people should know better) I frequently heard "tough road to hoe"

If the weather is bad, it can be a tough road to Idahoe

SDSU beat Nevada, so the tiebreaker would move to next highest team, since we'd both have split with the Aztecs. If that ends up being Fresno, then Nevada gets the 1 seed.

It'd be a travesty to leave us out if we knock of Nevada and end up 27-7, but it's possible I guess. We'd be like a top 30 NET team

So to be the one seed, we need Nevada to lose two of its last four and we need to win out.

Unless we lose early in the tournament.

The real Question is... What is the advantage of being a 1 seed as opposed to a 2 seed? Other than bragging rights obviously.

It just determines your row (did I use that right?) to the championship game. The 1 seed plays (likely) the 8 seed then the 4 seed, whereas the 2 seed plays (likely) the 7 seed then the 3 seed.
