Re: Forum Name Change
Not true. He had 2 years in the MW and got better. 8th to 4th. I think Stew would have competed just fine...mcaggie1 wrote: ↑March 13th, 2019, 11:23 amNo. He had 4 years to do that in the MW, and we got worse. .... the talent and the record.GameFAQSAggie wrote: ↑March 13th, 2019, 10:36 amA counterpoint is that if he was coaching against Mountain West teams, he also would have been able to land one or two more star players to carry us than he would otherwise.

"Regular Bowel Movement" could be a forum name change for the Sandbox.

Re: Forum Name Change
Who cares what his record would have been in a different conference? I don’t think it’s necessary to speculate to try and figure out “how good he really was.” He played the teams on the schedule and did really well2004AG wrote: ↑March 13th, 2019, 12:19 pmSeeing as how the best teams in the MW are old WAC teams, I’d say it would be the same. Yep. The team that has won 3 straight regular season titles in the MW is Nevada. The same team we had to beat to win the WAC.2004AG wrote: ↑March 13th, 2019, 12:19 pmSeeing as how the best teams in the MW are old WAC teams, I’d say it would be the same. Re: Forum Name Change
That is the point. The MW isn't as much different right now from the old WAC. And it is a compliment to Stew. He entered the WAC with Nevada clearly being the best team, yet competed just fine in the conference.trombone_ninja wrote: ↑March 13th, 2019, 1:08 pmWho cares what his record would have been in a different conference? Love Craig Smith, but he has a long way to go to compete with Stew. He'll likely never approach the all time win total, but he very well could have more tournament success. We already might have a better seed this year than Stew ever had.

Re: Forum Name Change
But they are all better than when in the WAC. Our first four years in the MW obviously tells the tale.2004AG wrote: ↑March 13th, 2019, 12:19 pmSeeing as how the best teams in the MW are old WAC teams, I’d say it would be the same. Re: Forum Name Change
Stew was only in the MWC for 2 years. How did Stew stack up against the current co-elite of the MWC? Season finishes where Nevada placed higher in the conference standings while in the same conference with Stew as coach:
2006
2011
2013
Years when Stew teams finished higher:
1998
1999
2007
2008
2009
2010
2014

Re: Forum Name Change
Didn’t we finish in 6th place during our last year in the WAC? I’ll speculate that Stew would have done well against peer institutions during his coaching prime even if it was in the MW. I believe some injuries and coaching burnout were more notable factors in our drop off around the time we joined the MW.mcaggie1 wrote: ↑March 13th, 2019, 2:01 pmBut they are all better than when in the WAC. I’m not going to look it up again but awhile back I looked at our RPI vs the old MW teams during our glory years and if that is a good indicator, we would have done great in the MW of old.

Tied for 4th. Might have been the 6th seed.Pacobag wrote: ↑March 13th, 2019, 4:20 pmDidn’t we finish in 6th place during our last year in the WAC? Re: Forum Name Change
Wikipedia agrees with you that we tied for 4th.
Shows us as the 5th seed in that 2012-13 WAC tourney.

Perhaps it depends on what one considers to be a "regular bowel movement"?
