Radio

Post by NAggsty Butler » March 15th, 2019, 12:21 am

So I work the evening shift and can't watch on the computer, so I have been listening to games on TuneIn through 1280. Unfortunately, when I turned it on tonight, they had a repeating message saying the game was blacked out due to my loctation. I had no way to watch/listen. Does anybody know how to get around that crap?

That happened to me a couple games ago. I turned off location services on my phone and restarted the app. Worked fine after that.

I think it had to do with it being the Jazz game?

No, it was an Aggie game that it happened to me on. I think Colorado State.

If you want to be really nerdy, a VPN service does the trick as well.

Don't bring back Al. Just convince the local radio group they're being proud and hurting their listenership by refusing to rebroadcast the 1280 call of the game.

Like I said that was just a reference to the need for something better. The local guys might be up to something they have started a whole new station called the fan and broadcast sports all day with Fox stuff (Like the DP Show). I listen to it all the time.

When Jazz and Aggies are playing at the same time, like last night, Jazz are on 97.5 FM and Aggies are on 1280 AM. Jazz games are frequently blocked in Utah for online or app listening, but Aggies are not. So you may not know it, but you were inadvertently trying to sign in to 97.5 FM Jazz game. Not sure how to choose the AM feed in the app or tunein, but you can online. Hope that helps clear it up.

So when I go to 1280thezone.com and click on listen to 1280 The Zone live online on their website I am inadvertently selecting 97.5 FM? That seems like a pretty weird misdirect. Same with their 1280 The Zone station on TuneIn? It isn't actually 1280 the Zone but 97.5?

On the header of the website it has a button to listen to 97.5 FM or 1280 AM - each a separate button. The first page of the app (in iOS anyway) also has multiple button to choose either.

I don't think it's an error. I remember reading in a past media guide that for the conference tourney the local stations only have the right to broadcast the game on their local stations, with the "national" and internet rights being held by the MW Radio Network. The MW Radio Network will then sell ads and also distribution rights to radio stations. I know there was some speculation last year that KVNU might become a MW Radio Network affiliate for the tourney, thereby competing with the "flagship" broadcast.

You can find the link to the MW Network radio for each game here: https://themw.com/sports/2017/8/28/broadcast-guide.aspx
