8 Seeds

Post by mcaggie1 » March 22nd, 2019, 9:20 pm

3 of the 4 number 8 seeds have lost to the 9's they have played, and the final 8,9 matchup finds the 8 getting rolled over.
Not a good year for the 8 seeds. 100% losses. The closest game was 9 points.

Yeah, we can feel crappy about our loss but at least it was relatively close for much of the 2nd half. Mississippi and VCU weren't ever in their games really

Hasn’t the 9 seed historically won more often, not just this year?

I believe it was 68-68 coming into this year. But now the 9 seeds have the upper hand.

To be honest, Utah State and Washington were both better than 8 and 9 seeds should be.

USU was the lowest rated 8 seed and the 32nd best team according to kenpom. Washington was the highest 9 and rated 33.

After seeing the "higher seeds", Utah State should have been a 5 seed, and Washington is in the same boat.

We were seeded fairly. I dont know how we could have been a better seed with our resume. Nevada, irvine and st marys were our best wins. That doesnt compare to the 5 seeds.

We were seeded fairly but I would much rather get a twelve seed and play say a 4th place Wisconsin than a 1st place Washington. We got the worst draw that we could possibly get as an 8th seed. I don't think we played another team that used a zone d and had no idea how to break the zone. It's also Too bad we didn't start pressing earlier. Oh well,
there is always next year. Go Aggies!

Washington came in first place in the regular season, but oregon was the best pac 12 team going into the tournament. Washington lost to oregon at home and by 20 in the championship during the last week of the season. Also lost to a bad cal team and struggled with bad stanford, oregon state and usc teams down the stretch. I dont know if there was a team playing worse ball down the stretch that we could have played as an 8 seed. Nobody was complaining about this matchup before the game. We just didnt get it done.

Honestly, Washington played pissed. Like nobody respected them. All the prognosticators I saw had us winning. Im sure they heard the noise and they played much more inspired than we did. We almost looked like we’re fatigued mentally a little. Either way they worked us big time. Give them credit!
