Not surprised but still disappointed we couldn't hold onto him for another year

He can still come back to school.

Happy for him. I think we will hear from Sam soon as well or at least he should test the waters.

He's hiring an agent tho

You can now hire an agent and still come back to school. We won't know till late May. I didn't like the words "intention of staying in the draft" though. Another year might make him a lotto pick and a lot more money.

Yeah I figured he would test the waters but this sounds like a bit more than that.

I still think it is more likely than not he is back next year but not nearly as confident in that as I was.

He can hire an agent and either withdraw still or if he didn't get drafted come back. I think he's gone for good though. Best of luck to him, what a fun year

So far I haven't seen a single projection that has him in the first round. That could easily change if he impresses NBA scouts at some point during the process. But as of right now the smart money is still that he will be back next year.

SI had him 29th to the Spurs few weeks ago.

The Athletic had him at 71. The question is will he return if he is going to be drafted in the second round. This really puts the coaching staff in a tough bind.

Also, Smith is being considered for the Cincy job.

The NBA draft is all about potential. Unfortunately or fortunately I could see a team snatching him up in the first round just based on potential. If he wants the NBA and only wants to make sure he will be drafted he is gone. If he wants to be a first rounder he is probably gone cause all it takes is one team. If he wants to be a lottery pick come back for one more year at USU.

Maybe this is why the 7 footer from Utah might be interested.

“We are excited for Neemias to go through this process. It will be great for him to test himself against some of the best basketball players in the world,” Utah State head coach Craig Smith said. “The new rules in testing the NBA waters will give him an accurate assessment of where he stands. This should be a positive experience for him.”

That doesn't sound like Smith is 100% convinced that Queta is gone for good, but who knows. All it takes is for one team to fall in love with him.

I would say it is probably a 50% we lose him. I would love to have a Utah state player go one and done for the 1st time ever, but he could be picked even higher next year. It would also help to increase the probability of a magical season if he returns. But, if the Utah guy were to replace him, I would not be as worried. With the Utah transfer and a potential PG transfer (Toolson, Proctor, TA&MCC guy, etc) we would still be pretty darn good without Queta.

I wish Queta would stay for another year because he and the whole team could have made a serious run in the NCAA tournament, and Queta could have gone really early in the draft in 2020. I wish him luck and hope the best for Queta.

My thoughts exactly GeoAg. I hope Queta does what is best for him. But I love him as an Aggie. Would love to see him come back and work himself up to lottery area of the draft.

The only thing that shocks me is the statement he fully intends to remain in the draft. Testing is a no-brainer, but I didn’t see him staying in until reading that. Now I’m worried. Hopefully there is still a good grad transfer or other option available in late May if Nemi follows through and stays in the draft.

Hope we don’t end up losing Nemi, Merrill, and Smith. Just getting to the NCAA tourney would not be worth that.

For certain: I think I will cry (Acho que vou chorar). caralho can mean the f bomb - might also be calling him a stud in that being a rooster is cool in portugal.

I take the second sentence to mean You are everything. Putting the ão on the end of Queta's name is like calling him the great and powerful Queta.

Queta responds with We will always be together my boy. (this response indicates to me he is gone - meaning he is not indicating he is just testing the water).

Pretty sure the Caralho has connotation of cock as in rooster. Think little jerry, bad (I can't express myself without swearing) cock fighter.

NEMI has liked a couple tweets saying if he doesn’t go first round then he may be back. Still a chance he comes back

I wonder if the typical agent advice is to test the NBA waters, but if the player doesn’t get drafted, he should go pro in Europe to focus full time on basketball while he (and the agent) gets paid. If someone of Queta’s caliber is likely to develop as well or better while playing for a solid pro team in Europe, it would be harder to decide to “stay in school” and continue the student experience, especially if the NBA scouts will closely monitor his progress regardless of where he plays next season. Ultimately I guess it depends on the advice he is getting from trusted sources and what his priorities really are.

He came from Europe. Do you really think he came to the US to play for one year and enter the draft only to go back to play in Europe? I doubt it.

No, I’m just wondering what agents are typically saying to these kids.

You can come back if you aren't drafted in either round. But you can't pull out AFTER the first round and before the second. So he either has to pull out before the draft altogether, or remain available for the second if he isn't picked in the first.
