Not only do I have an idea. I know exactly who it is. I'm just waiting to get the go ahead to spread the word. When I get the nod, I'll let you all know.SectionBAggie wrote: ↑May 6th, 2019, 3:41 pmRumors of a very tall recruit on campus today. Any ideas about him?

Pretty much averaged a double-double. Looks like he’ll have three years left, no? Do we know if he still has a redshirt year?aggies22 wrote: ↑May 6th, 2019, 5:29 pmHe is a JuCo kid. The coaching staff loves this kid! Him and Sean Bairstow are the only two offers that have been extended during the spring signing period.

This kid looks awesome. Sign him up. His offense is much more polished than Quetas and his defense seems pretty good. A lot of the same qualities that Queta had.

aggies22, do you know how his shooting is? In the video there were a few 3 pointers, but mainly dunks. I love his attributes, but wondering how his hook shot, jump shot, etc compare to his dunking ability?

Re: On campus recruit
A big guy who can run the floor well, dunk, and get rebounds is an improvement over any big we had last year not named Queta. Looks well worth a scholarship.slcagg wrote: ↑May 6th, 2019, 7:54 pmWord on the street is that his dunking percentage made is higher than his other shot percentage made.ThunderAggie wrote: ↑May 6th, 2019, 7:42 pmaggies22, do you know how his shooting is? Would love another PG too, but this guy looks like someone who will help our team whether or not Queta is back.
Re: On campus recruit
What I see is a 7 footer who runs the floor decently dunking on 6’ 5 dudes. That’s good, we need that. What I don’t see is one post move. He will be a good backup, we need a starter. Queta is not coming back, so I still ask who that is? Maybe it is Stall or Roche.
Re: On campus recruit
Literally the first offensive play on the highlight reel was a nice post move.

Re: On campus recruit
It’s gotta be extremely hard to recruit a starter-level player when it’s not known what Queta is doing. But I agree, this guy looks like more like a high level back-up. If he’s the Fakira replacement, this is an upgrade.
I’d much rather have a big athletic guy who can run the floor, dunk, and block shots. A post move or two would be nice, but in the modern game those other things are more important skill sets for a post player, IMO

The Big Karwowski
I will be interested in seeing if he signs, and he seems to have a skill set that look very promising.
Just to put this in a little context, before Dargenton, McEwen and then Queta (and Brito), the Aggies' track record on foreign recruits was uniformly bad, for about the past 15 years. Before these recent players, you have to go back to Cass Matheus and Dmitri Jorsson to find international contributors, and those were 15 to 20 years ago. Stew Morrill consistently struck out or didn't have the patience for the big foreign kids to develop.
During that stretch, it was hard to find any international player who contributed for more than one season for USU, and even any contribution was out of the ordinary. Even among the recent players, only Dargenton and now Brito has stuck around to complete his eligibility, but McEwen and Queta were obviously stars while they lasted.
To my recollection, here is a list of the most recent international players. I'll start with the new recruits:
Bairstow
McChesney
Grootfaam
Karwowski (?)
And here are the players on previous active rosters:
Queta
Fakira
Brito
McEwen
Dargenton
Janicek
Barnaba (high school in US, and born in Sudan)
Begic
Lopez (I know that Puerto Rico is part of the US, but it's also considered to be international basketball)
Vaitiekus
Premasunac
Niang
Cooks
Cooper
Thoseberry

To be fair, most of the American kids we recruited for the last few stew years and first few Duryea years sucked too.dogie wrote: ↑May 6th, 2019, 9:40 pmI will be interested in seeing if he signs, and he seems to have a skill set that look very promising.

This class looks our best in a long time on paper and on film.
Of the guys on that former player list, Matt Lopez is the only I can recall one who ended up having a decent college career. He went on to have a pretty good career at Rider.

Re: On campus recruit
He runs the floor very well for someone his size. He's active underneath, jumps just fine, rebounds, blocks shots. They didn't let him shoot from outside, so that's an unknown. He almost averaged a double/double, and if we can find a big post this late who did that in heavily guard oriented JC ball, that's pretty good. Smith has an eye for talent, and a talent for player development. If he offered the kid, he sees something there.
Warning! Don't read this post. It's garbage.

Re: On campus recruit
Good breakdown. I love how active he is on defense and he’s quick to react and quick off his feet for a 7 footer. I’m surprised he’s not listed in the top 100 Jucos for 2019. I saw somewhere that he shot 9/22 on threes.I.M.Noone wrote: ↑May 7th, 2019, 7:03 amHe runs the floor very well for someone his size. He's active underneath, jumps just fine, rebounds, blocks shots. I agree. Especially with this coaching staff’s ability to develop players.
Btw I was wrong about 3 pt numbers, not sure where I got 9/22 from. But I don’t care if our 5 shoots threes.
