Queta - NBA Combine

https://stats.nba.com/draft/combine/

This site tracks all of the NBA combine numbers and stats. So far, Queta's measurements are pretty good and he ranks amongst the highest, but his running and vertical were not too impressive. It will be interesting to see how he does in the scrimmage. His name does not show up in the fist scrimmage, so I think he is going to be in the second scrimmage. I think it is coming up on ESPN3....go Queta!!!

Based on the numbers and stats all Queta has going for him is long arms. He really needs to work on his quickness and vertical. His standing vertical is terrible.

It is going on right now! It is halftime...it is on ESPN3 or ESPN2. Here is stats:(https://stats.nba.com/game/0921900002/)

Queta is 0 for 3 and missed a contested dunk with 1 second until half. He isn't playing too bad all around and moving pretty well. Needs to have a better 2nd half though!

Well, he is the only one who hasn't scored yet....

Yet he has a block and two rebounds. We'll see if he adjusts to the level of competition.

I'm not surprised, but obviously we have seen his potential and scouts might too. I think it is clear to pretty much everybody that 1-2 more years in college will help his development.

I always enjoy seeing the height without shoes numbers.
6.7" Cody Martin is actually 6' 4.75''. Ha ha!
6'10" Jalen McDaniels is 6' 8.25''
6' 8" Cam Reddish is 6' 6.5'', Zion and RJ must be 6'5"

Queta is just a quarter of an inch under 6'11" which is pretty good.

If he comes back next year maybe we should list Quetta at 7’-1”

While I agree it’s fun to see how much player’s heights were embellished in college, I also don’t think it should matter what height a guy is without shoes for the NBA. He’s going to play with shoes on correct?
Do we have NFL prospects run the 40 in socks?

They could wear thick shoes they don't normally play in for measurements though if they don't measure without shoes.

I like comparing apples to apples. I’d prefer a measuring standard for all similar to NBA combine without shoes. I’m 6’-2 1/4 without shoes. when someone asks I tell them I’m 6’-2. I would feel a little sheepish telling people I’m 6’-5”. Granted I’m not a college basketball player but adding shoes to a measurement just adds ambiguity.

Keep it consistent, I think barefoot is the better baseline for player comparisons.

The scrimmage just started. Queta scored on a quick reverse layup and they had a chance to talk about him briefly.

I think for Queta or any of these players they can be their own worst enemy. Just way too easy to overthink things and not play the game naturally.

The reverse layup was right in motion for him and will be the best he can show teams.

1-3 FG
1-2 FT
6 Reb
4 Blocks
An assist, turnover and 3 fouls

I thought he looked a bit more comfortable today, but he did get beat a couple of times on pick and rolls. Something I thought all year that showed up today, is that he really is not very good a setting screens.

I've said this, along with many of you, that if he can't be a 1st rounder, he should stay. I'm gonna go further and say that I'm not convinced he would be a 1st rounder next year.

Only way he's a first rounder this year IMO, is if somebody has multiple first round picks and an is willing to use a 2nd or 3rd first round pick to take a shot at him based on future potential. I can't see anybody using their only 1st round pick on him at this point. I'm not going to go that far for next year though, but I hope we are able to have that discussion this time next year.

He’s a defensive specialist and has a career there imo. Mid 2nd round.

The question is how much can he improve his offense if he stays? Can he build it into something serviceable at the NBA level by staying a year in college? If not just go and get paid for maybe being a good nba defender.

This was the write-up CBS Sports had on Queta’s Combine performance:

“Utah State freshman Neemias Queta showed some interesting stuff on the court today. A really active and competitive big man who this week was one of only four prospects to measure at 7-foot or taller with shoes (he also had the largest hand size).

“Queta had a tough matchup Thursday playing against Fall, one of the most impossible assignments for any player this week. But Friday he really got a chance to show some stuff, recording three points, six rebounds and displaying fervor on the defensive end of the floor. Queta might be a year away from being really good; if he comes back to Utah State next season I expect he'll be dominant and enter next year's draft as a center to keep tabs on. For now, he's an interesting prospect with physical tools that will have teams asking to see more.”

NBA Draft Projection: Mid-second round or return to school

"Neemias Queta popped up on the radar this year, standing out for his impressive physical profile and efficiency at Utah State. But he looked behind the other second-round prospects during scrimmages, totaling just three points between both games.

Limited offensively, Queta's finishing and shot-blocking aren't likely enough to warrant first-round interest this year. Returning to school for a potential breakout sophomore campaign seems like the logical move, depending on Queta's interest in more college versus developing in the G League.

He'd continue to draw scouts to Utah State games if he did choose to come back. Long-term potential remains intact, given his 7'0¼" size (with shoes), 7'4¼" wingspan, 9'3½" standing reach, 61.4 field-goal percentage and 3.5 blocks per 40 minutes.

But watching him against second-round bigs, it was clear Queta isn't a sure thing and needs more time to improve his skills and feel."

The lead title of the article is telling in stating that Queta’s draft stock went down as a consequence of the combine. Conversely Cody Martin’s draft stock went up as a result of his performance.

The real question is whether Neemias wants to hone his skills in the G-League next year or return to USU to do so. Only he knows.

This is good news for Aggie fans. I'm cheering for Queta but would love to see him at USU for one more year to make another run with Merrill. Here's hoping he'd rather continue his development in Logan with passionate fans and conference championships to win as opposed to sterile, empty G-league venues.

Hope his momma has some pull for him to stay in school. It was mentioned that all athletes are life time Aggies and getting their degree is still a top priority per the ad dept. Queta was told he is expected to return and get his degree no matter of his b-ball future. “My words, not an AD quote”

I certainly wish the best for Queta, but I hope the best for Queta means at least another year or two in an Aggie uniform followed by a lottery pick and a guaranteed $3m-$4m per season for three seasons plus a team option. THAT would be ideal for all parties involved. If he doesn't get taken until the last part of the 1st round, the money is less than half of lottery money; and if he gets taken in the 2nd round, there is no guarantee he would get a contract at all. If he gets a guaranteed deal as a 2nd rounder, it could be a one-year guarantee for less than $1m. Queta come back!!

I'd hope he wouldn't go the G-league route. How much is an athletic scholarship worth per year in $? It can't be much less than what he would be making in the G-league, right?
