Re: With Queta coming back I'm calling it.
Just curious, what are the thoughts on our record for next year.
Depending on our OOC games, I think we should be able to do better than this season's OOC. Conference wise, Nevada should not be as much of a threat as well. I know some teams got some good transfers and teams like New Mexico, Fresno, etc continue to be up and coming, but we did not lose any of our top 4 scorers and have added a very good recruiting class. I just don't see many MW teams beating us this next season. On the "high expectations side", I say we go 11-2 OOC (we went 10-3 this season) and then go 16 -2 in conference. (we went 15-3 this season as well) This would mean a 27 - 4 record going into the conference tournament.

Re: With Queta coming back I'm calling it.
The MWC is still a good enough league that we'll lose a few, but I think 27-4 is very possible. One thing is for sure, we won't be surprising folks like last year. This time , MWC teams will be gunning for us.ThunderAggie wrote: ↑May 28th, 2019, 5:31 pmJust curious, what are the thoughts on our record for next year.

Great that he is coming back and I think we should be a tourney team again but I think this year is going to be a lot tougher than some on this board. We will absolutely have a target on our back this year - every team we play will gunning for us.

Re: With Queta coming back I'm calling it.
People will expect us to be good not last place or whatever we were predicted last year. It won't be half way through conference play when teams realize we aren't a push over.
This post is likely straight up poor sarcasm and cannot be taken seriously.

Amazing how we have one decent season and all of a sudden we start talking exactly like another local team’s fan base is accused of talking.

Not to be Debby-downer, but we should perhaps remember Nevada’s expectations this past year after going to the Sweet 16 the year before. Just sayin’.

Re: With Queta coming back I'm calling it.
Nah...we are not thinking national champions. I think the expectations I outlined are pretty reasonable to accomplish judging by who's coming back and the mountain west conference field. The expectations are similar to what national and regional writers are saying about the Aggies next year. You have to admit, Aggies are in a favorable situation. Craig Smith is an absolute steal for the Aggies.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑May 28th, 2019, 7:14 pmAmazing how we have one decent season and all of a sudden we start talking exactly like another local team’s fan base is accused of talking.

Granted, Muss was the perfect villain for opposing teams and the fire extinguisher incident was a bad scene, but as far as "a roster full of low quality people", I wouldn't go there. If the twins, Thurman or Jazz had been Aggies, we wouldn't have been saying that.

Re: With Queta coming back I'm calling it.
I think the record will be as good or better. I know teams will be gunning for us, but I don’t think that really makes a huge difference. In most cases we’ll still be the better team and Coach Smith is the kind of guy who gets the most out of his players every single game. There will be some losses, probably some to teams we have no business losing to, but the losses will be few.
Will respond whenever you ask what the band is doing

Exactly. We had pretty good luck last season with injuries. Hard to replicate that. Of course we should have a lot more depth this season. Without significant improvement, someone like Miller may struggle to get much playing time.Imakeitrain wrote:If we stay healthy I think we will have an incredible season.

I see your point but still feel that is a little bit of a stretch. Emotions are a little high given the good news today. Personally I'm waiting to see how our schedule pans out before I make any guesses on success for next season but it's not unreasonable to think we are tourney team next year.Roy McAvoy wrote:Amazing how we have one decent season and all of a sudden we start talking exactly like another local team’s fan base is accused of talking.

Re: With Queta coming back I'm calling it.
Disagree. The “will we go undefeated” thread was zoobiesque. This one contains pretty much what one would expect for a team that won both the regular season and tourney titles last season, returns every key piece including the conference MVP and defensive MVP, and has seemingly upgraded at every other spot - potentially significantly. Predicting winning a couple more games than last year and winning an NCAA game seems like a very reasonable prediction.hipsterdoofus21 wrote:Exactly. Re: With Queta coming back I'm calling it.
I do not think there was a a low quality person on the Nevada roster. They didn't shoot well and that really hurt them down the stretch but they weren't dirty players. They weren't bad guys. Muss is legit guy to hate on because successful coaches tend to be the villains of the piece.
I guess it is cool that you guys bring up Nevada so much as some sort of goal post though it is more than a little weird.
The Pack has had a nice stretch but they are not the king of the MW.
You have a fine team and should be really good next season. Nevada is probably going to be down a bit in a transition year.
My advice is to just enjoy the ride..In mid major land it is very hard to sustain it for long..

We did get absolutely destroyed by a mediocre pac 12 team in the tournament.ChicAggie wrote: ↑May 28th, 2019, 8:28 pmDisagree. The “will we go undefeated” thread was zoobiesque. Last year we couldn’t beat any legit teams on a neutral court because of our point guard play. We have only 1 PG on the entire roster, and he isn’t overly athletic and commits an astronomical amount of turnovers any time an athletic team pressures us. Merrill can’t do it all.
Brito is seemingly the backup PG and he also gets out of whack against any real athleticism and starts turning the ball over a lot.

Totally disagree - Have you watched them play the past few years? I think the twins have been two of the best sports and upstanding guys the whole time they have been at Nevada. Jazz is a complete stud, would love to have him on the team. Granted Caroline melted down here and from the video footage it seemed to not be a surprise to the rest of the team, but he was new to Nevada and could have been some what of the chemistry struggle they had. But their team has been full of great talent and likable guys. Musselman has been the only sore spot for me. His constant crying to the refs and antics will not be missed. His wife was the worst offender of the entire lot. That BS racism crap she pulled here was as low as it gets, but of them all, she was the one not really affiliated with the team. I hate seeing a quality team get bad mouthed by fans when I believe the kids have worked hard to be a pretty classy group.N8boz wrote:Nevada had a roster full of low quality people.utaggies wrote:Not to be Debby-downer, but we should perhaps remember Nevada’s expectations this past year after going to the Sweet 16 the year before. Re: With Queta coming back I'm calling it.
Two things:nvspuds wrote:I guess it is cool that you guys bring up Nevada so much as some sort of goal post though it is more than a little weird.
I don’t think it’s true that us “guys bring up Nevada so much.” Nevada was the team we battled right down to the wire to win the regular season title last season, so it would make sense that the team might garner more mention than other conference foes, just as Boise State is the most mentioned conference foe in our football forum (while virtually NO ONE mentions Nevada, because the UNR football team is far less relevant). That said, I’ll bet if you read every basketball post on this board for the last year, you would find that far fewer than 1% of them bring up Nevada.
Second, in the context of this thread, Nevada is the perfect example of a conference foe who had high expectations coming into the season reasonably based on the prior year’s performance, but reality didn’t quite match those expectations - cited as a cautionary tale to encourage the tempering of high expectations.

Yep. My thoughts exactly. No problem with their players at all - even Caroline tbh. The coach and his wife were my problem also and now they’re gone.Chupamedia wrote: ↑May 28th, 2019, 9:15 pmTotally disagree - Have you watched them play the past few years? Let me tell you a little something about my expectations: I have traveled to only two conference tournaments in the last 20 years, and the Aggies won both of them (Jaycee’s freshman season and the Aggie’s last season in the Big West). I just booked a room earlier today at the Aria for March 4-8, 2020.

Fair enough..I am not trying to rattle anybody's cage..I thought the 'low quality 'thing was a cheap shot but so did others here.
I do see lots of comments about Nevada basketball on this board..I never read your football board.
Just enjoy the ride..Nevada has exactly nothing to do with whether you will have a good season or not. There is currently 2 players who were on the active roster for the Pack last year. It is a completely different team with a new coach. How they did last year is indicative of nothing.

Team chemistry was a mess, that's what happens when you build a team around transfers sometimes. Plus they still had a pretty damn good year. Definitely missed their 3 pt shooter in the tourney though
