I don’t know anything about him, but I can’t imagine this wouldn’t be good. A year to get back in shape while playing here and there in garbage time behind Queta and Kuba would be good. Then maybe he competes with Kuba for the starting spot next year. I like having 7 footers, even though some of them don’t pan out. I’d rather not play a lot of games with a 6’9” center.

He was a walk on before his mission I believe. He played at Wasatch in High School and averaged 10 pts and 8 reb. Looks like he might have grown an inch and put on 30lb.

22, let's talk about Dorius. What do you know about him? Is he a scholarship player (thought we'd used 13 already)? Will he see PT?

The way it was announced, he sounds like a walk-on.
Based solely on his name, I believe he may be from Braavos - or possibly Westeros.

We have definitely used all 13 scholarships for next year. Trevin was and still is a walk-on. Alek Johnson has left the team, so beyond Trevin, there is still room for one more walk-on. For the D-1 Mountain West level, he is a project. He could probably play and play well at a lower level. It will be good for him to come in and bang against Neemias, Kuba and Liam. If next season mirrors anything like last year, he'll play in a blow out scenario. Down the stretch, Alek played more than Crew Ainge did.

Actually it looks like he lost some weight. He weighed 244 in 2017.
Below is a video of him working with Tarvish Felton prior to his mission.

His dad was a basketball star in my high school in Idaho, and his grandpa was my dentist. He's a good kid from a good family. I hope he develops into a great Aggie over the years.

That kid has zero business playing basketball. He is more fragile than my mother-in-law’s China. One bad fall and he will snap his neck or break a hip or snap an arm in half.

I hope he turns into something decent, but that video didn't inspire much confidence. He is a 7 footer and is struggling a bit to get the ball over the rim. Of course that is all I have ever seen, but my first impression is one of very limited athletic ability, that this far has gotten by entirely on size alone. That may be unfair. Am I wrong?

Depends on how long he's been doing that drill before they started the video - dude could have done 50-minutes of other workouts and be on his 6th set of standing two-handed dunks with 30 seconds of rest in between. He might be very limited, or very tired. But he's a walk on, so it's possible that you're not wrong.

No need to sweat about it. Walk on, no harm. Practice fodder and he’s an Aggie. Best of luck to him and his future. Work some development magic.

Looks like he's getting it just as far above the rim as he needs to. Makes sense since this is a drill and he's doing a lot of reps. If he tries to slam it down hard from way above the rim every time he wouldn't last long doing the drill. Plus, the "just enough" approach is probably quicker, which adds to the reps he's doing, but can also be useful in a game.

Exactly. Would be highly unusual to try to hit max vertical on every dunk in a repetitive at-the-rim drill.

My friend has been watching practice, and says the 2019 version of Dorius is nothing like the one shown in that video with Tarvish Felton, known as the great developer of big men.
My buddy who has been watching practices says that he's returned much bigger and more physical, and this staff has actually seen some ways he can help us. Sure, he'll be mostly scout squad fodder, but they think he can really play. That surprised the heck out of me to learn that, because I just thought of him as a big oaf sitting on the end of the bench two years ago. I'm interested to see where this goes.

Any 7' walk-on is initially going to struggle catching a ball and chewing gum at the same time. Hopefully he can put in the effort it will take with the coaching/training staff to become something special.

I was told that he turned down a scholarship at UVU to walk on here. Evidently some coaches feel like he has some
potential

That’s enough for me to give him props. Good on him and hope he works hard and contributes.

I just hope he averages 5 or more minutes per game at some point in time during his career.

In a podcast interview with the Utah Statesman Craig Smith said "I'm really fire up about him (Trevin)". Sounds encouraging to me.
Link to podcast is below. (Great listen). His remark about Trevin starts at about the 10:40 mark.
Gotta love these scrappy walk-on types who bust their butts to become contributors and defy the odds. Porter, Bean, now Dorius potentially.
Don't forget Taylor.
Ah you're definitely right, forgot to mention him. Was one of his biggest fans from day 1 too. Just love the game all these guys bring, chip on your shoulder is a real thing
