* Hafa Airujo of BYU giving Spencer Nelson a hernia check, and then Spence finger-rolling one in at the buzzer to beat the Y;

* Stew grabbing the mic in 1997, when the fans were throwing stuff on the floor, and yelling, “What the hell is this? Knock this sh*t off!”

* Nate Williams firing up a 50 foot turn-around jump shot at the buzzer to beat Kreshimir Cosic and BYU in Cosic’s debut in the Spectrum, 72-70.

Back about 1980, somebody driving a little car around the floor of the Spectrum with a sign on it, and pulling up to a ref and stopping. The sign said: “The Jerk.”

There have been mostly some amazing ups and such crazy games that I've seen in the Spectrum. I would be re-missed though not to mention the biggest deflating game for me:

UCI vs USU 2002....Jerry Green's "The Dagger" shot right after Ronnie Ross hit an amazing 3 pointer with 4 seconds left. It snapped our 31 game home winning streak (3rd longest in the nation). It was such a terrible day. But hands down that was an amazing shot. We got them back at their place later on in the season though which was sweet payback.

I remember that game well. Couldn't believe he got that shot of so easily!

The Butler dunk was the only was I was there for, magic.

And it wasn’t a chicken, they smuggled in a holstein and tossed her onto the court.

How did they get a BYU cheerleader in without being noticed, and how did they toss her onto the court?

We were playing Wyoming before we were in the MTN West. Wyoming was ranked at the time and it was a packed house. They were checking student id’s in the stands because of all the Wyoming fans in the student section. Well 3 guys all in Wyoming gear and there leather chaps all stood up and were being annoying because of a few good plays. The students put an end to this quickly as they all started chanting “Broke Back Mountain”!! The 3 guys sat down rather quickly and didn’t say much the rest of the game!!

Stew asking for the mic and telling the frat boys to stop throwing ***** on the floor. The refs just stood there not knowing how to respond. Classic Stew!

I’m young. Current jr at usu. but I grew up in Logan going to games I can remember names of players like Spencer Nelson, cardell butler, and basically everyone since then. I have no specific game that I can pick out but a lot of good memories. The one that I can distinguish is Jaycees 40 point game. Also beating Nevada last year will always be one of my favorites because it’s one of the first real big wins as a student.

The New Mexico State game.....I was there with my Pop as a 16 year old. I remember it well. The game was in the 1970-71 season. We played New Mexico State twice, both in 71. We lost at Los Crucial, and won in Logan. Our guard Tebbs, went up for a lay-up and was roughed up pretty good by a New Mexico state player. Williams said something, and the next thing you know their player Jeff Smith, blind-sided Nate right in the head with a punch. Then Smith took off running, Nate went running after him. Smith took off into the visitors tunnel. Williams as he was running the length of the court after Smith was tackled by Marv Roberts just at the entrance to the visitors tunnel. Marv saved Nate from getting kicked out. Smith was lucky, if Nate would have caught up with him it would not have been pretty. The sad thing is Nate got the technical not Smith, and Smith thru the punch. If I remember, we were down by 10 and it pissed our players off so much that we came back and won. Well, the next year we are playing them again in the Spectrum. Mostly all of New Mexico State players had moved on except Jeff Smith. Notice I said moved on, as New Mexico State is not noted for graduating players. Well the greek frats, The Figis sneaked 3 chickens in a gunny sack into the Spectrum. The Figis used to sit right behind the basket by the visitors end. When Jeff Smith was announced in the introductions the Figis threw that gunny sack out onto the Center jump circle. At first we didn't know what it was, but we could see movement in the sack. Pretty soon 1 chicken pokes his head out and comes out onto the court. Then the 2nd one, and then the 3rd chicken. The chickens were stunned from the throw so they were wobbling around the court by Smith. It was one of the most hilarious moments I have witnessed in the Spectrum. The Chickens were representing Smith being a chicken for hitting Williams then taking off! As a 16 year old is there any wonder I loved coming to the games!

This is awesome Trout. Thank you for the first-hand account! After a long absence, the FIJI's are back on campus. I'm sure they'll enjoy this story.

Oh man. I’ve heard about the first game all my life (see post above about the fight in the stands). But I’ve never heard the follow-up s\tory of the chickens!!! That is HILARIOUS and pretty legendary!!! I remember watching the Fiji antics in both football and basketball when I was a youngster. Good times!

The only chicken I remember was the pervy KVNU chicken lol.

One of my favorites will be on 1/4/20 when the Aggies beat a then undefeated SDSU team at home.

Many great memories of games, thanks for the rememberances. Let me add one more:

Reggie Theus night. Complete with porn-staches and the poster of him with all sorts of geri-curl in his hair.

I again enjoyed the night when old sausage fingers Duncan from Boise shot the students the bird.

I was one of those dressed up with the poster of Reggie. He came over and took a picture with us and was a pretty good sport about it. Pretty fun night.
