I'll have to go back and look more closely at the stats, but it seems like against BYU, St. Mary's, and LSU we defended the three pointer very poorly. Don't know what it is causing the issues there. BYU didn't shoot as well from three when Brito was in from what I observed.

Just because the shots went in doesn’t necessarily mean we were defending them poorly. Haws was hitting deep 3s off the dribble. Just because he made some tough shots doesn’t necessarily mean we were defending them poorly.

As I remember it, the shots that hurt us from other players were where they kicked it to a wide open man after a double team. We did have a few memorable breakdowns. I don’t think there were a ton though.

I've watched every USU game this year and it was a problem starting with the Montana State game at home the first game of the year. I would think we've had some teams shoot higher than their average three point percentage against us, particularly against Montana St., LSU, St. Mary's, and BYU.

Just looked up the percentages for each of those games and they were 47%, 44%, 42%, and 39% for Montana St., LSU, St. Mary's, and BYU respectively. That would indicate improvement over the season, but teams still seem to shoot the 3 pointer well against us.

vs LSU as soon as we started our extended pressure D LSU's perimeter shooting percentage fell. Our team has a tendency to play too far off perimeter players. The pressure D forces us to pick up opposing players early and stay with them. It effectively extends the defense so we're not giving too much space or being slow to pick up our assignment.

I'd like it to be our SOP more for what it does for our defensive focus than what it does to our opponents.

Montana State and LSU both shot above their season average against USU. Saint Mary's and BYU both shot below their average from 3. Not only are the percentages getting better, the last 2 were by far the 2 best 3 point shooting teams we've faced this year and we held them to under their average. Saint Mary's has the best 3 point percentage in the country right now and BYU is up there as well.

We were defending the 3 better with the zone. When Brito went out that hurt us as he's a much better defender than Miller.

I felt we were falling apart in the zone at the end of the game. It seemed like if our goal was getting them a pretty uncontested 3 point shot, it worked well. Maybe that was to keep it out of Childs down low? It seemed like with the zone we were playing, we were always just a few steps too far behind.

Queta coming back and getting up to game speed will greatly help our perimeter defense. Seriously. The guys on the outside will be able to play closer to their man and not be as worried about getting driven on since the big Portuguese eraser will be protecting the paint. He covers up a lot of deficiencies on defense. Kuba hasn't been bad at this, but isn't at the same level of help defense as Queta.

The extension of the 3 pt line has made it harder to extend the defense and not leave open spaces and more room to recover to try to contest shots.

More concerned with the perimeter shooting of the team than the perimeter defense.
