Derick Earle has passed away. I’m sure many of you know him or know of him. Thought I would just post this here to help spread this sad announcement though. Not much information is known yet. Condolences to the family.

I saw some people mentioning that we should light the A blue in honor. I think that would be a great thing.

Derick and I overlapped briefly as front row regulars and became friends. I remember a Gossners game where I brought my small daughter to the game and we sat with Derick. His enthusiasm and excitement really made for a fun experience for my daughter. That was years ago and she still remembers him and points him out now that we are “townsfolk” on the opposite side of the students. He probably never knew anything about that moment for her and he’s probably touched many in similar ways. Rest in piece Aggie brother.

Biggest die hard aggie fan I ever met! Lighting the A blue for him would be awesome!

Derick posted here as LelandAggie and most recently posted under the CNN top sports photos thread in response to the picture he appeared in.

Was a good dude. I'll miss seeing him on the front row but he has a better seat now.

I am sad to admit that I am not even half the Aggie fan that he was. It has been great hearing the thoughts of those around him. I will set a New Year's resolution to be a better Aggie fan after reading about him.

Kind of where my thoughts have been, too. I didn't even know about him until his passing, yet he was 50x the Aggie I am. I may never be able to attend every basketball and football game, attend the other sports all the time, etc., but I can do more. I can also do more to try and get to know other Aggies. That's one of my main failings in that I have not had a lot of face-to-face interactions with other Aggie fans.

Derrick really was a true aggie fan. one of the last interactions with him was at the vivent center. I talked to him for a few minutes before the game and he didn't know where he was going to sit. after i had sat down, i heard his voice over in the middle of the lower section center court across for the benches about half way up. He was yelling trying to get the referee's attention. He got their attention and they all three saw him acknowledged him and laughed having a small conversation with him 15 rows up. Great interaction. Derrick will be missed!! we have had him over to our house many times, he coached my son at Logan High for a couple of seasons. One other thing about Derrick is that he was a religious man, not the best but would be there every week he could. another great story about Derrick. He was in charge of bringing the sacrament bread for a Young adult ward. he showed up late one time and came down the isle and just used a football QB throw to get the bread to the sacrament table, funny!!!! No more air mail sacrament bread!! another church policy changed! Love ya D!!

When not attending Aggie athletics, Derick spent his time working with people with disabilities. He was a staple in their lives. He rarely missed a day of work (except to go to the conference tournament for basketball). His students/clients absolutely adored him. They thrived in his care. It was a joy to see him serve them with as much passion as he gave USU athletics.
