Where was Bairstow?

Post by codingaggie » January 18th, 2020, 10:39 pm

Was there a reason that bairstow barely played today?

He played in the first half and did not play well. In the 2nd half we were dominating until 4 minutes to go so there was no reason to play him.

Brito was shooting so well and taking such good care of the ball down the stretch that Coach couldn't afford to sit him down.

That’s the crazy thing. Miller and Brito are horrible, might as well give someone else a try.

Brito gifted them the ball at least 2 times down the stretch.

So what did Bairstow do that was bad. Especially compared to Britto and Miller.

If I remember right he did not close out to his defender and left them open for a wide open 3 that they made. He also got the rebound and instead of going straight up for a wide open layup he shuffled his feet and got a traveling. I don't think he played horrible, but until 4 minutes to go the aggies were completely dominating so there was no reason to play him as the other players were playing well. Although he probably would not have played as bad as brito did in the final few minutes.

The last in bounds pass at the end of regulation was a thing of beauty.

First of all neither Miller or Britto would have gotten that rebound and second the defense by Britto was horrendous. Why the short leash on Bairstow when Miller and Britto can make bad play after bad play with no consequence. I'm sick of the loyalty showed them game after game. This season is over start getting some new players some experience.

It's inspiring to watch the culmination of years of practice with emphasis on John Wooden fundamentals exemplified in one magical moment. Two hand chest pass perfectly delivered for the tying layup.

Lets not forget the perfect form on the corner three that was perfectly placed to not get blocked by the rim and land right in the Boise players arms to give them the confidence they needed that Diego would be clutch for them down the stretch if they would only do their part.

But lets not make Brito the only hero. Basketball is a team game. Getting the home team a win with so little hope and little time remaining was a masterful effort by our Aggies not to be replicated in my lifetime.

Not to mention the pass right after Bean drew the offensive foul on Dennis. Brito threw it along the baseline and hit the line in the process. Counting the last pass in which he gave Jessup a free halfcourt heave Brito had 3 turnovers in 17 seconds.

Bairstow must be extremely frustrated at this point. Coach must have no confidence in him to keep rolling out Britto and Miller despite how awful they are playing.. If I was him, I would be worried about next year as well because currently the coach must see huge holes in his game to not be playing him in front of those two.

I just don’t get his lack of playing time.

Where was Bairstow? Watching an epic meltdown along with the rest of us - but with a better seat.

...and it's not just Bairstow. This staff seems to have lost focus of what "team" means because I think they have crushed the hope of a few players. You mention Bairstow (which I agree) but it doesn't stop with him. Anderson played a huge role in our early season success (I'll call it our 2019 season), even leading us in scoring and taking games over against some pretty good competition. Same goes for Kuba, he was carving out a decent role and had early season success when we didn't have Queta. Now Anderson barely plays despite being one of our strongest guys and he has completely lost confidence in his game after being pulled over and over. There was a game or two where the coaches were in his face nearly every break in action and since then his minutes have decreased significantly, he seems to have lost his touch from the FT line and is not hitting the 3's he regularly hit early on. Kuba has barely sniffed the floor since his surgery and is a complete non-factor.

The seeming need for the staff to continue to roll with the same starters and same lineup on the court no matter how they are performing is not doing the team any favors. We just witnessed what happened when BSU sat their starters and let some guys off the bench prove what they could do. I personally feel like the off-season trip to Portugal and spending time with Brito's family has clouded Smith's better judgement in how much Diogo should be playing.

Completely agree about Anderson. He basically won the LSU game. I thought for sure he would keep playing the whole season.
