Attendance
Maybe 4,000 here for tip-off. Must be deflating for the players but hopefully they use it as motivation.

And a long drive back to Sandy on a weekday evening. Too long for me and the weather isn't likely to be putting a smile on too many motorists faces.

I came up from Davis County and quite frankly the team has no room to complain about attendance the way they've been playing I don't blame anybody for not coming up.

I thought the students were ok for a last Tuesday night game!!!
Announced attendance something in the 8000s. That’s the most sparse 8000 I’ve ever seen!!

You guys aren't acknowledging that we don't have our employee of the year award winner who posts on social media our ticket prices compared to Super Bowl ticket prices to show what a great deal USU tickets are. Of course attendance will drop drastically, and will continue to do so until we get a seasoned veteran to blast the customer for not showing up.

Re: Attendance
There seemed to be quite a few people at the game. People always seem to complain on attendance. I mean it was a 9 pm MT tip-off on a weeknight vs Air Force, who is not one of the teams that will draw big crowds. I understand we get more money when more people show up, but I honestly don’t care too much about attendance unless we are playing a big rival or a ranked team nationally. Then I would want the place to be packed. It just bugs me that it is so noticeable when people are gone because the fall colored seats. Are we ever going to change the color or just keep it?

Popular color schemes are cyclical. It would be very disappointing to get rid of those seats right before they came back in style.ThunderAggie wrote: ↑January 22nd, 2020, 10:01 amThere seemed to be quite a few people at the game. Lol... Or we could just make the seats Aggie Blue, Fighting White, and *insert adjective* Pewter. First of all the team, and coach did not complain about the crowd, in fact in the post game Bean, and coach thanked the fans that showed up.

Re: Attendance
We have the ugly seats discussion at least once every year. An upgrade is not happening anytime soon without a new arena. I suspect that once you rip out all of the seats you'll have to bring it up to code. And as anyone who has say in a Spectrum seat could tell you, the Spectrum is way too physically small to have a 10k seat capacity.

Re: Attendance
A remodel has been on the future drawing board for sometime, however the cost maybe as much as a new arena, after 50 years it maybe time for some improvement or as I would prefer a wrecking ball and a new arena.Aglicious wrote: ↑January 22nd, 2020, 1:52 pmYep, we'll see a new arena before we ever see the Fall seats removed.Mr. Sneelock wrote: ↑January 22nd, 2020, 1:30 pmWe have the ugly seats discussion at least once every year. Im old when I went to the spectrum for the first time, I climbed a goat hill from the parking lot went to the south entrance, walking down to the seats tried to fit my 6'4" 240lb frame into the seat I thought OMG what a uncomfortable seat for anyone over 5' 110lbs and the colors are almost as bad as a blue turf in Boise.

Has anyone done the math on the payback time and annual installments for a new basketball arena? Also, how many seats do we really need in a new facility?

Re: Attendance
If we were to ever build a new arena, I would think 8,500 to 9,000 is a more right sized arena, with a few suites, more leg room and modernized concourse you could make an arena with more seating scarcity that would create a higher demand and bring an even higher level to the fan experience and fan environment.NavyBlueAggie wrote: ↑January 22nd, 2020, 10:49 pmHas anyone done the math on the payback time and annual installments for a new basketball arena? Re: Attendance
Here is a link to the Athletics master plan that was finished in the fall of 2018. I know it has been posted before:
https://www.usu.edu/facilities/files/nw ... 202018.pdf
It talks about a Spectrum renovation feasibility study to compare the cost of a new 9,000 seat arena versus a renovated Spectrum with a capacity of 11,300. I've never been able to find a copy of the feasibility study. The preferred site for the new arena is the parking lot to the southeast of the "Meet The Challenge" bull statue.

Re: Attendance
I'm sure the athletic department has done a feasibility study on the Spectrum and has an idea about how much it would cost to renovate or replace.
I could see building a new arena being cheaper than renovating.
If we build a new arena here's what I'd want:
1. Capacity to be a minimum of 10,000. Basketball averages 8000 per game. 10,000 would give us the fourth smallest arena.
2. Student section to remain the same size. I wouldn't be opposed to having student seats be as small as code allows to pack more in.
3. Acoustics should be designed to direct sound towards the court. I want the Spectrum 2.0 to be louder and even a more hellish place to play.
4. An environmentally friendly design. I think it could help sell a new arena to the general population, attract good attention to the University, would make for a good engineering challenge, and be good to the environment.

I can't imagine this would be allowed. I doubt that the desire to yell louder at the opposition outweighs the potential negative impact on hearing.

Re: Attendance
Honestly, I don't want capacity greater than 10k. Attendance at sporting events in general is declining. Small arenas, if done right, can be awesome. I would prefer 7,500-9,000 or so.

Re: Attendance
I am thinking more along the lines of a slightly larger version of the Kennel at Gonzaga (6,000) or the Reynolds Center at Tulsa (8,600), or The Pavilion at Ole Miss (about 9,000). Or a larger version of the new High Point Panthers arena (4,500), or Houston's new arena (about 9,000).

I would hate to take away the advantage we have of the student section being right next to the court and not buffeted by three rows of the media.
