Re: Recruiting
I would be SHOCKED if our coaching staff even contacted him. He would be the opposite of every guard the new coaching staff has recruited.nvspuds wrote: ↑April 1st, 2020, 1:20 pmhttps://www.espn.com/mens-college-baske ... rell-gomez

Short, strict position player, doesn't distribute the ball, has a great 3pt %?aggies22 wrote: ↑April 1st, 2020, 2:39 pmI would be SHOCKED if our coaching staff even contacted him. In all seriousness, he does have a great 3pt% and ft%. I'm sure he'll find a good place to contribute.

Re: Recruiting
I get what you are saying, his numbers look great but he doesn't fit the type of player this staff prefers to recruit. If it didn't matter, Justice Hill from SLCC would have been recruited harder.ShowMeAggie wrote: ↑April 1st, 2020, 2:48 pmya, but a 44/44/95 shooting line and 20 ppg isn't anything to turn our noses up at, even if he is 5'8"?!aggies22 wrote: ↑April 1st, 2020, 2:39 pmI would be SHOCKED if our coaching staff even contacted him. Re: Recruiting
That 5' 8" PG has a low number of assists per game, and we are looking for willing passers that play well at PG from the looks of it.aggies22 wrote: ↑April 1st, 2020, 2:56 pmI get what you are saying, his numbers look great but he doesn't fit the type of player this staff prefers to recruit. Re: Recruiting
Hill from the highlights looked like a bad fit for us. Attacking mind set and no look to pass, and Hill's 3% shooting was not good.aggies22 wrote: ↑April 1st, 2020, 2:56 pmI get what you are saying, his numbers look great but he doesn't fit the type of player this staff prefers to recruit. Re: Recruiting
I agree that there is concern there. It is strange that the grad transfers have been consistently picking a losing school.

Re: Recruiting
For every one grad transfer that gets tweeted about us being in his "schools of contact," there are five others players that we actually do contact and no one tweets about it. The coaching staff is trying to find their guy.

Re: Recruiting
I am just putting out there the weird grad transfer issue. The most hyped grad transfers here went to BC and Nebraska, and they are schools that currently suck at basketball.aggies22 wrote: ↑April 1st, 2020, 4:35 pmFor every one grad transfer that gets tweeted about us being in his "schools of contact," there are five others players that we actually do contact and no one tweets about it. Re: Recruiting
A few new names that were added to the transfer list yesterday that are at least interesting. Terrell Gomez (Northridge, already mentioned), Elijah Hardy (Washington), Elijah Harkless (Northridge), Quan Jackson (Georgia Southern).

Tulane needs to find someone better to shop those photos. The roughage aside, who designed that second picture? It looks like he's inhaling the comment.

Re: Recruiting
Going to fill the spot of the Arizona state pg that just put his name in the draft would be my guess. Wonder who reached out to who first on that one.
Here is an interesting one and possibly one we could have a shot with.

Re: Recruiting
He's an exciting transfer but I can't imagine he's leaving North Texas to attend USU. I'm going to guess tampering with this one and the kid already knows he's got a P5 spot for him.

Re: Recruiting
The kid I mentioned the other day, Terell Gomez received 10 power 5 offers the day he entered the portal. He said he won't decide for 3 or 4 weeks. Other transfers see this. They already have a good idea they will get good offers.

Re: Recruiting
Or already have gotten some unofficially.
At some point the NCAA needs to figure out a way reduce this in my opinion. It is pure poaching from the bigger to the smaller schools. Makes it extremely difficult to manage a roster.

Re: Recruiting
You have poached a kid from the ACC. It goes both ways..
There are trade offs to grabbing transfers. It is hardly fool proof i.e. New Mexico, and you risk losing your youngsters.
But I agree that it makes for difficulties in year to year roster management.

Re: Recruiting
Sure, we got a transfer from a P5 from the portal. The big distinction is it's much more prevalent and easy to pre-offer these kids to your school BEFORE they enter the portal if you're a P5. That's where it's a bit unfair, the big boys hold all the cards.
David Collette flat out admitted to being tampered with before he'd committed to transferring. That kind of behavior has to be regulated if possible.

Re: Recruiting
Duryea got wind of the Collette ordeal by former UNLV coach who was a friend of Duryea. Former UNLV coach said something to the extend there is some mysterious calls of someone who represents Collette that Collette is looking for a new school while Collette was on the roster and in regular season. This is the stuff that is hard for the smaller schools.Madmartigan wrote: ↑April 3rd, 2020, 2:25 pmSure, we got a transfer from a P5 from the portal. Anthony wanted to play, and he was not getting playing time with his P5 school and left. Utah State got lucky that Anthony decided to come here.

Re: Recruiting
Does it seem to anyone else like we aren't a player in the grad transfer market or transfer portal market and won't get any of these guys?

Re: Recruiting
Tampering does go on but once anybody goes into the portal he is open game. The kid still gets to pick. The players know the score. They talk to each other. While some guys enter the portal to see what kind of market they have, most enter the portal because they want to leave. There could be any number of reasons for that. We got the Martins because the new coach at NC State recruited over them. We lost Cole Huff because he felt under recruited coming out of high school. Jordan Brown did not want to stay no way no how.

Re: Recruiting
I wouldn't say "poached". USU isn't in a position to poach from anyone, really, much less a Power five conference school.
the Marco Anthony situation is different, I believe. He was recruited and signed by Virginia. He most likely was promised playing time and wouldn't be recruited over (they do this all the time). They recruited over him and he could see he wasn't going to get much playing time and he wanted to play. He put himself on the market and decided USU was a place he would fit in.
The majority of the guys entering the portal are from the non-P5 schools that have had a couple years to audition for a bigger school at the expense of the smaller school. They will jump at the opportunity to leave for a big school/conference. It isn't necessarily for playing time, they are getting all they want at the smaller school.

Re: Recruiting
BEFORE NEBRASKA
Cam Mack spent the 2018-19 season at Salt Lake Community College for Coach Todd Phillips, helping the Bruins to a 20-9 record and a berth in the Region 18 semifinals. A first-team All-Region 18 honoree, Mack averaged a team-high 19.1 points per game. He topped the Bruins in assists (7.6 apg), steals (2.4 spg) and blocked shots (0.6 bpg) while grabbing 5.9 rebounds per game from his point guard spot. He ranked fifth nationally in assists per game while finishing 24th nationally in steals. Mack shot 46 percent from the field and boasted a 2.8-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio.
A member of the high school class of 2017, 247Sports counted Mack as a three-star recruit, the No. 48 point guard prospect in the nation and the 18th ranked recruit overall in the state of Texas. He spent part of the 2017-18 season at Stephen F. Austin before attending Salt Lake CC.
