WHY Was USU Mardi Gras Party Scheduled @ 9PM on 2/8?????

Post by holladayag » February 8th, 2020, 1:15 pm

Why on earth can't USU get Athletics and the rest of the university on the same page? Why is a HUGE campus party scheduled during a basketball game? Why are intramural sports schedule during football and basketball games. No reason is good enough. This needs to change.

I'm guessing it's due to the fact that events like Mardi Gras take a while to plan so it's been planned for a while but the basketball game was put into this time slot pretty recently. With TV contracts now, you don't always know when a game is going to be until a couple of weeks out. This one happened to be put into a time slot that conflicts. It sucks but it happens. Hopefully the student section is still packed tonight.

The start time for the game tonight is printed on the schedule poster that would have been printed in October at the latest.

So, no, they just can't get it right. A free-for-all like Mardi Gras is probably planned as well as the Howl. In other words probably not planned much at all.

They planned the business Gala and this on the same night as basketball games. They obviously don’t care about athletics.

You know, there are only so many Saturdays in a month.

Maybe they could have done it last week, but next week is Valentine's Day, the week after is way too late for Mardi Gras (not that most Utahns would know when Ash Wednesday is anyway), and sometimes you just can't make everyone happy.

I get that you want to reduce competition and bring a full crowd to the Spectrum, but if you filled the student section, you'd still have 12,000 students running around campus looking for something to do.

Relax and enjoy the game.

They do the same thing with the howl and football games. Maybe they do that just to give us something to talk about!

Why are they celebrating fat Tuesday on a Saturday, anyway?

This sounds fun to join in on a complaining thread. It sure sucks that senior night will be on a Tuesday (school) night with a 9:00 tip-off. Glad I was able to get that off my chest.

Why did the schedule a basketball game with an 8pm tip off? Suns like poor planning with Mardi Gras the same night.

Mardi gras is supposed to get all the sinning out before Lent, since the majority of the population doesn’t Lent and all the LDS kids I knew in school didn’t sin why are they having a party for 500 students?
