He’s THE most clutch player I’ve ever watched at USU.

He missed a FT in the final minute for the first time.frankiesaysrelax wrote:He’s THE most clutch player I’ve ever watched at USU.
He knew the best chance was him taking that 3 in a tie.

If Wayne was the best. Sam is a clear cut #2. He's left Jaycee in the dust.

I never got to watch Estes, and I never thought a player greater than Jaycee Carroll would play for Aggie Basetball in my lifetime.
If I could pick a player from any era and have him on my team. I would pick #1 Merrill #2 Carroll #3 Greg Grant #4 Wayne Estes #5 Tai Wesley. Bench: Tony Brown, Cornell green, Brian Jackson, Marv Roberts Jared Quayle, Mark Brown

That shot was heard around the country. It was that sound of the bubble shrinking for all the poor souls that we that we would be part of for 8 days!

I think Wanye Estes has that honor, but Merrill is truly great.

Re: Has got to be the greatest college basketball game in Aggie history. And Sam Merrill, what do you say?
You have great taste and wisdom the way you said that. At 71 years old I have seen a lot of Aggie basketball. It is hard for me to chose one over the other. Wayne did what he did in 75 games, which is in itself incredible.... and no 3 point shot. That almost makes him untouchable as the best ever. BUT, Sam has been incredible on a much bigger stage, and his winning shot today is the greatest moment IMO in Aggie history.
Who is best.....has to be even.
Thanks John for your fabulous, incredible son.

Re: Has got to be the greatest college basketball game in Aggie history. And Sam Merrill, what do you say?
I agree which is why I was careful in my wording using "maybe" on the OP because there are some greats in the past who I haven't seen but should be given the proper respect in this manner. For sure, Merrill would be on the Mt. Rushmore of Aggie greats especially after today. This win will be iconic for years to come.mcaggie1 wrote: ↑March 7th, 2020, 6:09 pmYou have great taste and wisdom the way you said that. At 71 years old I have seen a lot of Aggie basketball. Nate Williams would replace Tai in my starting 5.LoveMyAggies wrote:I never got to watch Estes, and I never thought a player greater than Jaycee Carroll would play for Aggie Basetball in my lifetime.

Re: Has got to be the greatest college basketball game in Aggie history. And Sam Merrill, what do you say?
He hit two of the deepest shots I've seen him take outside of buzzer beater attempts. The pull up was even deeper. But to make that shot, against that defender, with what was on the line, I just don't know how anyone can argue otherwise. Estes is the best ever the same way the Babe Ruth is honored in baseball. For the time he put up incredible numbers, but if you're like me and believe that sports and athletes have evolved to become bigger, faster, and more athletic then you have to be more impressed with Sam's #2 overall scoring and #2 overall assists, while also being our best defender.

Was thinking he same thing about Nate Williams. He was unbelievable. And as amazing as Sam is I think there is a very healthy debate for number 2 between Sam, Jaycee, and Grant. Estes still has to be number 1.USUaggie wrote: ↑March 7th, 2020, 7:57 pmNate Williams would replace Tai in my starting 5.LoveMyAggies wrote:I never got to watch Estes, and I never thought a player greater than Jaycee Carroll would play for Aggie Basetball in my lifetime.

Scotty's call was great all game. I'm in San Diego at mission Beach today and am loving having my USU apparel out today!
