Retired Jerseys

Post by Yossarian » March 9th, 2020, 1:03 am

I've noticed Utah State retires jerseys, not numbers. Greg Grant's #5 jersey is retired, but Merrill wears #5. Cornell Green's #24 jersey is retired, but Brito wears #24. Is this common to retire the jersey but not the number?

No one has ever worn Estes number 33 but himself.

good questions, cause when the retire Merrill's jersey, they will have 2 #5's in the rafters.

I don't like the idea of retiring numbers most of the time. Numbers should carry an honor with them - a legacy for a player to live up to for those who wore it before.

Estes is the only number that shouldn't be worn again. Someday that may change but for now I think its fitting.

While I'm at it Estes should have an spot in the locker room. The team waiting for him to return sort of thing.

This post is likely straight up poor sarcasm and cannot be taken seriously.

Ironic because Kraig Paulson coached at USU for a couple of years.

I don't know who else has wore the number 5 jersey between Grant and Merrill, but if it has been only been Merrill then we need to get that number back on the court again next year. While were at it we ought to hand out jersey's #33, #20, #6, #24, #31. Maybe Miller would benefit from a jersey change to the number 20.

My question is why do they wait so long to retire anybody's #?
