Scholarships?
In a recent interview in the SL Trib (https://www.sltrib.com/sports/utah-stat ... asketball/), coach Smith said we have 1 open scholarship for next season (with Queta returning).
Assuming we get 13 scholarship players, to whom are the other 12 going? Is there another commit we don't know about? Is Stall for sure returning? Is Dorius getting a scholly? In my calculation, we should have two open for next season, what am I missing?
Returning Scholarships:
1. Sean Bairstow
2. Alphonso Anderson
3. Liam McChesney
4. Brock Miller
5. Neemias Queta
6. Justin Bean
7. Marco Anthony
8. Kuba Karwowski
Newcomers:
9. Steven Ashworth
10. Rollie Worster
11. Nigel John
Unknown:
Klay Stall
Trevin Dorius (scholarship?)
Carson Bishof (in transfer portal)

Re: Scholarships?
I would hope that Stall isn't taking one of those. USU should thank Stall for his service time and wearing the Aggie Blue. He made a commendable effort to try and make a go of playing but his body just didn't hold up. He should be encouraged to move on with the thanks of Aggies everywhere for coming here.
I had commented many times while he was being recruited that post players with lower extremity injuries are a gamble, at best. Knees and ankles can be fragile on these guys and don't always heal to pre-injury form.

Seems like Stall is going on about 10 years in the program.

Re: Scholarships?
IMHO, we can’t afford to keep Stall on scholarship. We have incredible post-depth (Queta, Bean, Dorius, and John) without him and a huge need for ball-handling and shooting.aggies22 wrote: ↑April 27th, 2020, 6:09 pmAs of today Klay Stall is on scholarship.Trevin Dorius will not be put on scholarship. Re: Scholarships?
Ive heard Karwowski isn't coming back either.
Cade Potter is home from his mission due to COVID-19, so add him to the mix. Probably the same for Steven Ashworth, unless he goes back out for another 9 months, or whatever it was he had left. He wasn't expected for another year, so he might have to wait to start his clock.

I thought it had been reported on here that cade would go back out and that ashworth mission would have been around June either way. Not saying you are wrong or circumstances have changed but we’ve had other things on here reported.AggiesForever wrote: ↑April 27th, 2020, 7:47 pmIve heard Karwowski isn't coming back either.

Ashworth is serving in Indiana and is not home yet but they do expect him in the fall. I also do not believe they are expecting Potter this fall.AggiesForever wrote: ↑April 27th, 2020, 7:47 pmIve heard Karwowski isn't coming back either.

Agreed. He must be on his 8th medical redshirt, and have 25 more years to play one season.

Why isn't Karwowski coming back? Was he banking on Queta leaving so he could be the starter or something?AggiesForever wrote: ↑April 27th, 2020, 7:47 pmIve heard Karwowski isn't coming back either.

Re: Scholarships?
Dorius was starting to look pretty good and worthy of a scholarship if Kuba is in fact leaving. If Stall uses up another scholarship next year warming a seat on the bus and bench I'm going to fedex a box of feces to Duryea. What a waste of a scholarship for the past decade.

Re: Scholarships?
While I agree (and I would be happy to donate to this cause that is very dear to my heart if you are running short on crap), some of the blame has to be put on the current coaching staff. Scholarships are year to year, and while I applaud loyalty and honoring agreements, this is beyond acceptable to keep bringing him back if he has no chance of playing.hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑April 28th, 2020, 12:05 pmIf Stall uses up another scholarship next year warming a seat on the bus and bench I'm going to fedex a box of feces to Duryea. Didn’t he disappear for a few weeks during the season. I’m not for dumping on a kid, but did we ever figure where he was? Re: Scholarships?
I appreciate loyalty, but you have a program to run. You have a player who has 0 to very little stats over like a 4 year period. He has nagging injuries. he should have his degree by now. his scholarship should be given to someone they can bring in and compete and help the team win games.slcagg wrote: ↑April 28th, 2020, 1:06 pmI guess that is ok. Re: Scholarships?
The ncaa has a program that is a medical retirement where the school can continue to pay for a players education until he graduates but he can no longer participate within the program. It seems Clay circumstance would fit this program

Re: Scholarships?
That's what I first thought when some were negative about Stall being on a scholie. Due to his medical issues, I think it's best to tamp down the criticism until the day that he is actually on the active roster and taking up a scholie that could go elsewhere.AGGIEFIGHT wrote: ↑April 28th, 2020, 3:26 pmThe ncaa has a program that is a medical retirement where the school can continue to pay for a players education until he graduates but he can no longer participate within the program. Re: Scholarships?
Basically and he would remain on scholarship but it would no longer count toward the yearly maximum of 13. That opens up another scholarship, so we now have two to give for the 2020-21 season.
