Re: MW Top 5 Lists
They are completely wrong with leaving Neemias off. The amount of shots that he alters that don't show up on stats is mind boggling. I expect Neemias to have an awesome year.treesap32 wrote: ↑August 7th, 2020, 9:47 amTop Defenders:

Crazy right? Bean was ranked #1 in the conference and he's not even #1 on his own team...Aggie84025 wrote: ↑August 7th, 2020, 9:51 amThey are completely wrong with leaving Neemias off. Re: MW Top 5 Lists
Not sure how they botched it. Flynn also wasn't the best defender on his team, but he got Defensive POY in the conference last year.flying_scotsman2.0 wrote: ↑August 7th, 2020, 9:59 amCrazy right? Re: MW Top 5 Lists
The MWWire has always been pretty blind to actual information. Tend to just favor what the "big" programs have.

You are one of the "big" programs in the MW.

Re: MW Top 5 Lists
I was just about to say this. If we hadn't won the tournament last year, but would have just had an alright year, would Bean even be mentioned on the "Best Shooters" list? He's great, but I certainly don't see him as a shooter. Sounds like big program bias, lol.

Re: MW Top 5 Lists
Not as big of head scratcher but I was also surprised he wasn’t considered the top shot blocker as well. But I can see how that one is at least an argument.treesap32 wrote: ↑August 7th, 2020, 9:47 amTop Defenders:

Re: MW Top 5 Lists
I wanted him in the top spot for shot blocker, but I didn't protest when I saw Mensah. He's an excellent player, and that's a good discussion to have.slcagg wrote: ↑August 7th, 2020, 10:21 amNot as big of head scratcher but I was also surprised he wasn’t considered the top shot blocker as well. Re: MW Top 5 Lists
It’s odd to me that they break out best shot blockers from best defenders. It’s almost like the best defenders category actually means best “stealer” but that just sounds weird so they used defender. I don’t think their best defender actually represents who would be MW Defensive Player of the Year. Their best defender category seems to be best defender that’s not a shot blocker. Kinda weird.treesap32 wrote: ↑August 7th, 2020, 9:47 amTop Defenders:

While we are on the subject of comparing blocks vs steals...what is more valuable? A steal results 100% of the time in a change of possession and takes away an opportunity for the other team to attempt a shot. Blocks often times result in the offensive team retaining possession.

Re: MW Top 5 Lists
Blocks are more demoralizing. Kinda like, it's much more exciting to see an opponent get posterized on a mean dunk, but your typical 3pt shot isn't as exciting even though it gets more points.

Re: MW Top 5 Lists
And here's the top 5 rebounders, from an author with an unfortunate last name: https://mwwire.com/2020/08/07/five-for- ... ebounders/
As I had hoped, we have two appearances on the list! Queta at 4, Bean at 1. Both seem appropriate, and having two Aggies on this list is not a surprise given our incredible rebounding as a team last year.

Re: MW Top 5 Lists
A lot of hate being thrown at the "Best Defenders" list for not including Queta. The article specifically stated that players who appeared on the "Best Shot Blockers" list were not eligible to appear on the defenders list. I felt it was a solid move to be able to recognize both perimeter and paint defenders without having to split hairs over whether the best perimeter defender is as good as the best paint defender.

Re: MW Top 5 Lists
Interesting. I guess I didn't read the disclaimers. I think the two lists should've just been combined. No reason to exclude shot blockers as defenders. But it's not my site nor my rankings, so they can do what they want.I am an Aggie Man wrote: ↑August 7th, 2020, 3:09 pmA lot of hate being thrown at the "Best Defenders" list for not including Queta.
