Stew's Spectrum

Post by Stewie Griffin » December 22nd, 2020, 6:14 pm

Why is this forum still called Stews Spectrum?
Shouldn't it be call "Craig's Corner"

If Craig Smith passed Stew in the total wins column, maybe we can talk about it.

He’ll be long gone before then though.

I'll say go for it if he passes him in NCAA Tournament wins, getting to 2.

After Gary bailed we decided to have these forums named after Aggie Legends rather than current coaches. There was a vote between Wayne Estes and Stew and it was decided that Stew's name would remain. Craig Smith could eventually surpass Stew but until that happens Stew's name will stay.

Beating BYU at least once should be a bare minimum criteria to have a forum named after a coach.

That should be the criteria. Stew was a legend and this forum should remain in his honor, but if we went on a run to the sweet sixteen, I'd be fine to go to Smith.

The greatest “legend” in Aggie basketball history is Wayne Estes, and he sealed it with his blood. He was to be the 2nd player taken in the NBA draft. Not the second round...THE SECOND player! His scoring records are next to untouchable. He only played a little over 2 and half years, and he did what he did. Give him 4 full years like guys today, and he would be one of the greatest of all time nationally, not just the Aggie record books.

This forum should be named “WAYNE’S WORLD.”

Let's just go with:

Stew Smith Estes Ladell Merrill Carroll Wesley Grant Newbold Nelson Harris Queta Ainge spectrum.

You could even make it an acronym

I certainly don't agree with "Ainge". Also, where's the "Jardine"?

Celebrate those great Aggie teams, but also recognize Stew for his greatness, but be willing to adjust if Smith produces something special.

I don't think it should take overtaking Stew in wins. I think that an NCAA win and another conference championship should be enough to make the discussion start (and maybe another multi-year contract).

I added Ainge as a joke. Jardine is definitely deserving as well.

If we are talking about naming the stadium after Aggie legends, what about the Brayden Bell Spectrum?

I'd be against naming the arena after a legend like Brayden Bell, but if we named the court after him I'd be fine with it. We named the field after Merlin Olsen, but not the stadium. That should be the precedent for discussions on how to honor Bell.

I think we also anticipated that the court would someday be named Morrill Court so this way both the football and basketball forums would be named after the actual surfaces of each respective sport.

Maybe that will never happen now? Or maybe they'll wait like they did with Merlin, until he's on his death bed before building the statue and naming the field.

Unfair to Brayden Bell, but I'd be fine with Morrill Court. The guy had 12 consecutive 23 win seasons at USU. He will always be a legend.
